Based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the film explores the bravery and sacrifice of the Maratha warrior, with Vicky Kaushal stepping into the iconic role. The ensemble cast includes Akshaye Khanna, Rashmika Mandanna, Ashutosh Rana, Divya Dutta, Vineet Kumar Singh, Neil Bhoopalam, and Diana Penty. Music maestro A.R. Rahman has composed the film’s soundtrack, with lyrics by Irshad Kamil, adding depth to the film’s emotional and historical intensity.
Vicky Kaushal on Chhaava's OT release
“Playing Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj was an honor beyond words and one of the most fulfilling experiences of my career. His courage, resilience, and legacy are something that should reach every corner of the world. With Netflix, we’re ensuring that his story not only penetrates deeper in India but also gets the global platform it deserves,” said Vicky Kaushal.
Dinesh Vijan on Chhaava's OTT release
Dinesh Vijan, the film’s producer, shared, “‘Chhaava’ has been a labor of love and an emotional journey for all of us.”
He added, “At Maddock Films, we’re passionate about telling stories that matter—stories that leave a mark. Chhaava is not just a tale of courage; it’s a celebration of legacy, resilience, and sacrifice. After an incredible run in theaters, we’re excited to bring it to a global audience on Netflix, where the story can live on and continue to inspire viewers around the world.”
However, amid the success, the film has also faced challenges. On March 20, a piracy complaint was filed by Rajat Rahul Haksar, CEO of August Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., an anti-piracy agency working with Maddock Films. According to the complaint registered at the South Cyber Police Station, Mumbai, the film was illegally distributed on various online platforms.
The unauthorised release reportedly involved over 1,800 internet links, posing a significant threat to the film’s theatrical earnings and violating copyright laws.
