Release Of Aamir Khan's Son Junaid Khan's Debut Film 'Maharaj' Postponed After Stay Order From High Court
As per reports, Maharaj film's release has been put on hold after a stay order was passed.
New Delhi: Aamir Khan's son Junaid Khan's upcoming film 'Maharaj' has found itself in legal trouble. The Vishva Hindu Parishad ( VHP) has appealed to the court to ban the film's release for 'hurting religious sentiments'. 'Maharaj' revolves around the religious head of the Vaishnav community and the VHP. Now, it seems that the film's release has been put on hold after a stay order was passed.
Stay order for Maharaj
A TOI report quoted a source close to the development that a hearing took place in Ahmedabad and in Mumbai on Thursday. The same report added that advocate J Sai Deepak is fighting the case for VHP while there were 26 lawyers who were fighting the case today in Mumbai, representing Yash Raj films.
The court has now passed a stay order on the film till June 18, 2024, TOI reported. The report also quoted the stay order as saying, " Today on Urgency few devotees and followed of Pushti margi Vaishav panth approached Gujarat High COurt Vice SCA/8771/24 after hearing of at length Gujarat High Court issued notice to the boradcasting authority, Central Board of Film Certification and Prodcuer of the film 'Maharaj' Yash Raj Film, OTT Netflic and make it returnable on 18/6, till returnable date high court granted stay on biradcasting release on OTT and media of Movie MAHARAJ'.
This decision came after a hearing in Ahmedabad. The film which was supposed to release on Netflix from June 14 onwards, has now been put on hold with a stay order, and will not release until June 18, 2024.

Directed by Siddharth Malhotra and produced by YRF Entertainment, the movie also stars Jaideep Ahlawat.
As per the makers, 'Maharaj' is set in pre-independent India and is based on the Maharj Libel Case of 1862, which was propelled by 'allegations of misconduct by a prominent figure'.
Interestingly, the film is releasing on Netflix without any promotions. No teaser or trailer has been released by the makers for the film, barring a poster featuring Jaideep and Junaid.
VHP leader Sadhvi Prachi was among the many X users who called for a ban on 'Maharaj'. The controversy around the film's contentious subject has led to several trends with hashtags asking for the film's ban. 'Boycott Netflix' and 'Ban Maharaj Film' have been trending among a section of users who claim that 'Maharaj' hurst religious sentiments.
