Vikramaditya Motwane Criticises Pushpa 2 For Dominating Theatres, Sidelining All We Imagine As Light

While Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2: The Rule continues to shatter box office records, acclaimed filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane has voiced his discontent over the film's extensive screen allocation.

While Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2: The Rule continues to shatter box office records, acclaimed filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane has voiced his discontent over the film's extensive screen allocation.

What Vikramaditya Motwane said

The director took to Instagram Stories to express his frustration, comparing the screen availability for ‘Pushpa 2’ to the limited theatrical exposure of Payal Kapadia's critically acclaimed ‘All We Imagine As Light’, which recently received two Golden Globe nominations.

After congratulating Kapadia on her historic achievement, Motwane lamented the lack of support for her film in cinemas. Sharing a screenshot highlighting the numerous daily screenings of Pushpa 2, he wrote, “And yet, Payal’s incredible success will mean f**k all to us because we will throw her film out, not let it breathe or find an audience, and will have 36 shows a day of one film in a single multiplex. Congratulations. We deserve this (sic)."

Pushpa 2: The Rule box office collection

Directed by Sukumar, Pushpa 2: The Rule is the sequel to the 2021 blockbuster Pushpa: The Rise. Released on December 5, the film sees Allu Arjun reprise his role as Pushpa Raj, now the head of a Red Sanders smuggling operation. Rashmika Mandanna returns as Srivalli, while Fahadh Faasil plays the antagonistic cop Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat.

The film has been a monumental success, grossing over ₹590 crores within days of its release, with expectations of crossing ₹600 crores by Tuesday. The movie also sets the stage for the next installment in the franchise, Pushpa 3: The Rampage.

About All We Imagine As Light

Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Light has earned historic recognition, securing nominations at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards for Best Director and Best Motion Picture in a Non-English Language. Kapadia is the first Indian filmmaker to be nominated in the Best Director category, marking a monumental achievement for Indian cinema.

The Malayalam-Hindi film tells the story of two nurses, Prabha and Anu, navigating love and life in Mumbai alongside their friend Parvaty. Featuring stellar performances from Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, and Chhaya Kadam, the film also made waves earlier this year by winning the prestigious Grand Prix Award at the Cannes Film Festival.
