Veteran actress Moushumi Chatterjee enters politics again, joins BJP in Delhi
Moushumi is foraying into politics for the second time after a failed first stint. In 2004, the actress had fought on a Congress ticket from Kolkata north-east seat but faced defeat. “It was a mistake on my part. I couldn’t understand the nuances. I had only 25 days,” she had said.
New Delhi: Months before the crucial Lok Sabha elections, actress Moushumi Chatterjee joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. She was inducted into the party senior leader in presence of party National General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya on Wednesday.
The 70-year-old has acted in several Hindi and Bengali films. Some of her famous Hindi movies include Manzil, Anuraag, Angoor and Ghayal. Her last flick in Bollywood was Deepika-Bachchan starrer ‘Piku’.

In March 2014, speculations had set off that that she might join the Trinamool Congress owing to her meeting with Mamata Banerjee at the state secretariat.
Moushumi is married to Jayant Mukherjee (son of famous playback singer Hemant Kumar). They have two daughters, Payal and Megha. Her real name is Indira. She adopted the screen name Moushumi because of her sister’s suggestion.
The actress was in news recently after having approached the Bombay High Court, seeking access to her comatose daughter and a direction to her son-in-law to let her attend to her daughter.
