Spider-Man: No Way Home Trailer Has Some Hidden Details. Could You Spot Them?

The much awaited trailer of Spider-Man: No Way Home is out and it gives all Marvel fans some amazing details of what to watch out for, if one looks at it closely.

New Delhi: Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) had ended with Spider-Man's identity being revealed as Peter Parker, by Mysterio, in a broadcast by the DailyBugle.net. Journalist J. Jonah Jameson, the major antagonist played by JK Simmons in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man movies, displays the video to the public, and calls Peter a murderer who killed Mysterio.

It was Mysterio who created a fake video where Spider-Man a.k.a Peter Parker is portrayed as ordering some drones to kill the former, which, of course, all Marvel fans know, is not true.  At the end of the last Spider-Man movie, Parker was with his girlfriend MJ, flying through the streets of New York with his web-shooters, when suddenly, the news of this big reveal by Mysterio was displayed to the public at the Pennsylvania station.

On August 24, Sony Entertainment released the much awaited trailer of the next Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home, which gives the audience some amazing details of what to watch out for, if one looks at it closely.

Now, watch the trailer once and see if you agree with what we observed.

1. The Rooftop Scene

The trailer opens with Peter and MJ talking to each other on the rooftop, about the world knowing that he is Spider-Man. MJ reads out a news article, which says some of his powers include the ability to hypnotise women. This very much connects to what is shown in the later part of the trailer, where Peter requests Doctor Strange to cast a spell in order to make everyone forget that he is Spider-Man.

The scene where Zendaya's MJ and Tom Holland's Peter Parker are on the rooftop holds a resemblance to the one in which Toby Maguire's Peter Parker and Kirsten Dunst's Mary Jane were lying on a spider web and stargazing.

2. The Split Face

Next, the trailer shows Peter and MJ trying to escape and flying around New York. In the background, J. Jonah Jameson is telling the world about Spider-Man's identity, and a picture is shown in which half of the face of the person is that of Peter Parker, and the other half is of Spider-Man. The scene draws similarities from the comics as well as the promotional materials used for this film.

3. Enters Daredevil?

Cut to the scene where Peter Parker is brought to a police station, handcuffed, and interrogated over charges that he used drones to kill Mysterio. Now, one interesting reveal in this scene is a man, wearing a shirt and tie, approaching Peter and handing over a bunch of files to him. Chances are high that he is Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock a.k.a Daredevil, who will be Peter's lawyer. Since Matt Murdock works as a lawyer during the day, and the physique and dressing style of the person shown in the trailer is just like that of Murdock, one can firmly believe that this will mark the official entry of Daredevil into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

4. Flashback To Homecoming

Then, a scene appears in the trailer where MJ asks Peter, over a video-call, if he feels there is anything good associated with the world knowing his identity, now that he didn't have to lie to anybody. In the background, we see some sketches made by MJ. This is an important continuity detail from Spider Man: Homecoming, in which MJ used to make sketches during her detention in school.

5. Black Cat Reference

There is a scene in which Peter is in school, and there are Halloween decorations in the background. In those decorations, we also see a black cat drawn, which could be a reference to a famous Spider-Man villain, of the same name, from the comics.

6. More The Merrier?

Peter and Aunt May are watching news on TV, when suddenly, some stranger(s) barges into their house and they are shocked. Now, in this scene, one can spot two red flares on the walls, which are most likely the reflections of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Spider-Men. After the Disney+ series of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Loki, the concept of multiverse has been introduced and it is likely that the Spideys from other universes have entered into Tom Holland's Spider-Man's Universe. This explains why Peter and Aunt May were so shocked, as they likely saw two more Spider-Men. It had been long speculated that Maguire and Garfield would make their appearance in this movie, though the trailer didn't show them.

7. Strange, Doctor Strange!

In the scene where Peter is shown in his school, he sees some wizard lights, decorated for Halloween, which remind him of Doctor Strange. This is when the trailer cuts to one of the most interesting parts. Peter goes to the Sanctum Sanctorum, in New York, to seek help from Doctor Strange, who welcomes Peter. The Sanctum Sanctorum is covered in snow, which can be attributed to the hole created by Bruce Banner, when he fell through the roof at the beginning of Infinity War. Since Strange was snapped for five years, until being revived in Infinity War, there must have been no one available to clear the snow.

However, it seemed strange that Doctor Strange, the all-powerful sorcerer, didn't use his magic to remove the snow. Doctor Strange's behaviour also seemed quite odd. He asks Peter how he can be of help. Peter asks Doctor Strange if he could go back in time and change everything back to how it was when the world didn't know who Spider-Man is. Strange agrees, and this is quite contrary to his character arc from previous Marvel movies where he promised to protect time and reality. And why is he still wearing the Eye of Agamotto? Didn’t Thanos completely destroy all the six Infinity Stones in Endgame? Now that Time Stone, one of the Infinity stones, no longer exists, what’s the use of the Eye of Agamotto necklace that guarded it?

Doctor Strange definitely doesn’t seem to be his usual self, and this brings us to speculation that he may be some other villain in disguise.

8. The Spell

Now, this scene in the No Way Home trailer, where Strange is casting the spell to change the past, is quite important. As Strange begins casting the spell, only a single mystical loop can be seen, but as he proceeds, three different mystical loops are seen, which could be representing three different Spider-Man timelines. In between the spell, Peter remembers that if Doctor Strange changes the past, it would also mean Aunty May, MJ and Ned forgetting about him being Spider-Man, which he surely didn't want, and asked Strange if he could cast the spell in a way such that these three people remember the truth, to which Strange replied that that's not how a spell works, and reprimanded Peter for tampering with the spell.

Due to Peter's interruption, Strange lost his concentration and control, and the loops entangled into each other, unleashing the multiverse. Also, this opened the doors of the Spider-verse. When the spell went wrong, glimpses of purple are seen, which is indicative of dark magic. Also, rainbow hues appeared, which hold similarities to the Citadel of Time, or the house of Kang the Conqueror or He Who Remains, shown in the last episode of Loki. It could be possible that Strange's spell doesn't work in the absence of He Who Remains, who was killed by Sylvie at the end of Loki. Actually, it was Sylvie killing Kang which split the sacred timeline into numerous branches, hence, one can't exactly blame Peter for being responsible for the multiverse being unleashed.

9. Clues In The Suit

The trailer now shows Peter running in a shelter house, and wearing a black and golden spider-suit. This is most likely gifted to him by Doctor Strange, and is meant to protect him from the perils in the multiverse. This suit was also shown in the film's promotional pictures. The stripes and circuitry on the suit make it appear as though it is made to help Peter withstand attacks from Electro, another Spider-Man villain who appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man movies. The shelter house in which Peter is hiding has FEAST written in the background, which is the same organisation that Aunt May works for, to help the homeless, according to some Spider-Man video games.

10. Did Peter Parker Steal Dr Strange’s Mysterious Box?

Then, Strange is shown chasing Peter, and for that, he is bending and twisting spacetime, and trying to make objects fall on Peter. They are in the Mirror Dimension, changing the reality, which won't affect the real world.

It is likely that Strange imprisoned certain villains from other universes, until he could send them back to their respective realities. For this, Strange has a mysterious box, which could hold everything together, and keep all the villains from other dimensions in prison. There are speculations that Peter steals the Box from Strange, which explains why he was being chased. Finally, Strange catches up with Peter with the box, which opens gates between parallel worlds, and he separates Peter's soul from his body, making him appear in his astral form, similar to what Ancient One did earlier to Strange and Banner.

11. Return Of Electro, Sandman, Lizard?

Then, some yellow lightning is seen, which is most likely Electro. Jamie Foxx, who played the character of Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man movies, has revealed that he will reprise his role. The only difference is that his colour has been changed from Blue to Yellow, probably because Marvel wants to make it appear similar to the comics. Electro was killed at the end of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and he probably makes an appearance in the present MCU timeline, before he died in his original timeline. When the lightning strikes, a van of the DailyBugle could also be seen. Peter is shown to suit up in an upgraded version of the Iron-Spider suit. After that, in another scene, Happy Hogan, who had helped Peter in his adventures, is shown to be apprehended.

Doctor Strange tells Peter that all these problems arose since he was living as Peter as well as Spider-Man.

Then, in a blink, something seems to jump to the ground from the walls, behind Peter, which could be Lizard from The Amazing Spider-Man 1. We also see a sandstorm that is representative of Sandman returning. Near the sandstorm, one can spot a minute detail. A character wearing a black suit with whitish stripes could be seen, and this could be Tobey’s Spider-Man from Spider-Man 3.

We also see a woman in a car, who could be Miles Morales' mother. Miles Morales is another version of Spider-Man, who lives in Puerto Rico, and this detail could be made out from the shape in the name reveal poster of the film, which was identical to the map of Puerto Rico.

Then, a Pumpkin Bomb makes an appearance, which is definitely William Defoe's Green Goblin, another Spider-Man villain. The most interesting reveal in the movie is Alfred Molina reprising his role as Doctor Octopus. He says, "Hello Peter." Most likely, he greets the Spider-Man from his own timeline, and not Tom's Spider-Man. This is followed by a scene in which the MCU Peter suits up, and the trailer ends.

12. Sinister Six: 'Devil in Disguise'

A number of easter eggs and hidden details could be figured out from the trailer, and many theories could be speculated. The trailer reveals a number of Spider-Man villains, like Doc Ock, Green Goblin, Electro and Lizard. This reveal opens the doors to the Sinister Six being introduced into the MCU.
Also, in one scene, a person holds a banner with a picture of Peter with Devil's horns and 'Devil in Disguise' written on it, referring to Peter as a Devil. Since the word Devil has been brought, the MCU could most likely introduce the character of Mephisto, who had created a lot of problems for Peter in the comics. It could even be possible that Mephisto is disguised as Doctor Strange, considering Strange's strange behaviour, and that Mephisto did this on purpose to unleash the multiverse. However, even if this is not the case, it will be interesting to see Doctor Strange trying to undo the fiasco caused by Wanda in the Disney+ MCU series, WandaVision, and Sylive in Loki, who had tampered with reality and the sacred timeline, respectively.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is set to be released in theatres in December 2021.
