‘DDLJ’ Turns 25: Bronze Statue Of Shah Rukh Khan And Kajol To Be Unveiled At Leicester Square?

New Delhi: ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ broke all box-office records and is one of the biggest blockbusters of all times. Written and directed by debutant Aditya Chopra, ‘DDLJ’ went on to become the longest-running Bollywood movie of all time. Starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in the lead roles, this film will be 25 years old on Tuesday. However, it seems that it’s time for celebration already as a statue of its lead pair SRK-Kajol will be erected at Leicester Square in London. The SRK-Kajol statue will be unveiled in Spring 2021. Taran Adarsh took to his Twitter and shared, “UPDATE... Bronze statue of #SRK and #Kajol to be unveiled at #London’s #LeicesterSquare to mark 25th anniversary of #DDLJ... Will be unveiled in Spring 2021... The first ever #Bollywood movie statue erected in #UK... #DDLJ is directed by #AdityaChopra.”
Talking about the inclusion of statues of Bollywood actors, Mark Williams, director of Destination Marketing at Heart of London Business Alliance said, “It's fantastic to be adding such titans of international cinema to our trail as Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge' is one of the most successful and important Bollywood films of all time, and it's exciting to be able to bring to the trail the first film that actually features Leicester Square as a location.” Williams added, “This statue is a fitting tribute to the global popularity of Bollywood and the cultural bridges that cinema can help build, and we're in no doubt it will attract fans from all around the world.” This statue will join those of nine other film icons from the past 100 years including Harry Potter, Laurel and Hardy, Bugs Bunny, Gene Kelly, Mr. Bean, Paddington, and the superheroes Batman and Wonder Woman.
