New Delhi: Actor Sara Ali Khan is busy promoting her upcoming film ‘Gaslight’, also starring Vikrant Massey and Chitrangada Singh. This is her second back-to-back OTT release after 2021 ‘Atrangi Re.’ Her last theatrical releases were 'Love Aaj Kal' and 'Coolie No 1' in 2020 and in both films, she failed to live up to audience expectations. In a recent interview, she spoke about the failure of her films and what she learnt from them.
While talking to Pinkvilla about the failure of her films and her biggest learning and regret in her five years in the industry, the actress said, “My biggest learning has been that ups and downs are a part of life. My biggest learning actually was that when you are at your lowest, you have to get up and run your fastest because when you are feeling underconfident and you start playing in the backfoot, that's the worst. I don't think I have any regrets but I am aware that there are parts of 2019 where I wasn't very honest, whether it's in my performances, whether it's in my behaviour, whether it's the way that I was in the media; I was louder than I needed to be. I was more attention seeking. I thought people like my carefree version more and so I did it so much that it felt like I was overdoing it. What people liked about me was the fact that I was organic and I lost that. My regret is of letting that go and I am getting it back. It's back!"
She also spoke about not having any theatrical releases since 2020. She said she misses the big screen, but the appreciation she got for ‘Atrangi Re’ (OTT release) made her realise that content matters most rather than the medium.
“I became an actor for the theatres and I am waiting and hopefully soon. I will love that. But this is not my decision. It is the producer's decision. When it comes to content, I think that if the content is strong, that's what will sell. I don't think the platform from where it is received matters as much as the nature of the content,” she told Pinkvilla.
In another interview with Siddharth Kannan, when she was asked about one thing that she would kill Kartik Aaryan for, the actress replied, “Honestly, I am yet to see somebody who knows the pulse of our audience as well as he does.”
Sara Ali Khan and Kartik Aaryan dated for a brief period. Though the couple never admitted it, it was clear on 'Koffee With Karan' when Karan Johar said she manifested her relationship with Kartik on this couch.
'Gaslight' will be streaming on Disney+ Hotstar on March 31st.
