Priyanka Chopra's fan trended the hashtag #ChopraOnOprah after snippets from her Oprah Winfrey interview were shared on social media. Her fan supported her when the netizens trolled for her statement on the show.
Global icon Priyanka Chopra’s interview with Oprah Winfrey has become the talk of the town ever since a few snippets were released on social media. The American TV presenter, while interviewing the ‘Quantico’ star, said that PeeCee’s memoir ‘Unfinished’ made her reflect her trips to India. Winfrey mentioned India’s ‘spiritual energy’ and ‘sense of connectedness’ and asked the former Miss World if she had a ‘spiritual foundation’ while growing up.
Priyanka responded in affirmative and said, “Spirituality is such a large part of India that you really cannot ignore.” The ‘Bajirao Mastani’ actress talked about her schooling and said that she grew up in a convent school.
The ‘Barfi’ star said that her father Ashok Chopra used to sing in a mosque. She added that she was aware of Christianity and Islam.
“My dad used to sing in a mosque, I was aware of Islam. I grew up in a Hindu family, I was aware of that,” Piggy Chops added.
Many users couldn’t relate to Priyanka’s statement of becoming aware about Islam as her father sang in a mosque. The netizens asked her which mosque allowed her father to sing.
While several netizens trolled Priyanka for her statement, her fans trended the hashtag #ChopraOnOprah on Twitter to appreciate the actress for the interview. One user tweeted, "Her calm, her brilliant answers ,this woman is one in a million, so proud."
One user said that people mistook Priyanka’s statement on the show. She tweeted, “I think what she meant was singing prayers during milads or jumma, that is very normal. As a Muslim who goes to pray every Friday at mosques, let me tell you, it is normal.”
The 'Dostana' star posted another clip from her interview along with the caption, "Just like so many of us, I have grown up watching @Oprah and been so inspired by her story, so to be a guest on her show is pretty special. Also, the fact that she read MY memoir is." She expressed her happiness on getting invited to Winfrey's 'Super Soul'.
