The much-awaited trailer of Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi starrer ‘OMG 2’ was released on Thursday. The film, also starring Yami Gautam and Arun Govil, is slated to be released on August 11.

New Delhi: The much-awaited trailer of Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi starrer ‘OMG 2’ was released on Thursday. The film, also starring Yami Gautam, Govind Namdev and Arun Govil, is slated to be released on August 11.

The trailer begins by making it clear that Akshay Kumar is not playing Lord Shiva but is his messenger. In the trailer, Lord Shiva asks Nandi to send one of his messengers to help Pankaj Tripathi's character Kanti Sharan Mudgal. It then shows that Kanti Sharan decides to sue his son’s school after his son is expelled from the school because of a video that goes viral. Yami Gautam plays the school’s lawyer. Akshay Kumar guides Pankaj Tripathi in his fight.

Directed by Amit Rai, OMG 2 is a sequel of Paresh Rawal and Akshay Kumar’s 2012 hit ‘OMG’. In the original film, Akshay played Lord Krishna while Paresh played an atheist Kanji Lalji Mehta.

The trailer of the film was supposed to launch on Wednesday but was postponed due to the death of renowned art director Nitin Desai. Akshay had condoled the demise of Nitin and tweeted, "Unbelievably sad to know about the demise of Nitin Desai. He was a stalwart in production design and such a big part of our cinema fraternity. He worked on so many of my films… this is a huge loss. Out of respect, we are not releasing the OMG 2 trailer today. Will launch it tomorrow at 11am. Om Shanti.”

Recently, the film was granted an ‘A’ certificate making it Akshay’s first film in 12 years to get an ‘A’ certificate. After watching the film, the Examining Committee (EC) of Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC), had referred the film to the Revising Committee (RC) since the film had a religious angle and the former didn’t want to take any chances. Recently, the clearance of films such as 'Adipurush' and 'Oppenheimer', having the religious angles, has irked certain sections of the audience and has put the CBFC at the centre of criticism from those sections.

The revising committee had reportedly recommended a few cuts and modifications in the film to issue a ‘U/A’ certificate to the film. The makers didn’t want  to compromise with the sanctity of the film, so they chose to go with an Adults certification with minor modifications.

‘OMG 2’ will clash with the Sunny Deol-starrer ‘Gadar 2’. All eyes are now set on August 11 for the big clash, as both are legacy films and command a huge fan following.
