New Delhi: Actor Manoj Bajpayee's upcoming film 'Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai', the trailer of which was released recently, received a standing ovation after its screening at the New York Indian Film Festival. The film is a true-life inspired courtroom drama in which Manoj Bajpayee plays a lawyer fighting against an influential godman accused of sexually abusing a minor girl.

Manoj was overwhelmed with the response that the film garnered at the prestigious film festival.

He said: "It's an overwhelming feeling to see such an amazing response from the audience on the International stage. I literally got goosebumps when our film received a standing ovation at the New York Indian Film Festival. I am thankful to everyone."

The film shows that in the battle between an ordinary man's willpower and the power of a self-styled godman, it is always the victory of willpower and no man is above the law. It shows the fight of a rape survivor.

Director Apoorv Singh Karki shared: "A film made with all heart and hard work to send out an important message to the viewers and getting appreciated is a humbling feeling. I am happy that our efforts are getting the reward that it deserves."

Earlier, the makers of the film were sent a legal notice by self-styled godman Asaram, sentenced to life for sexually exploiting a minor, and the Sant Shri Asaramji Ashram Charitable Trust alleging that the trailer of the film is "highly objectionable and defamatory".

When asked about the legal notice, Bajpayee had earlier said he is not the right person to comment on the issue, but the film, directed by Apoorv Singh Karki and written by Deepak Kingrani, is not based on "just one story".

"The case is already in the public domain and the verdict is out... We have to be truthful to all those incidents that have happened. Also in our film, the most important thing is how well we treat the victim," Bajpayee told PTI in an interview

'Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai' is all set to premiere on ZEE5 on May 23, 2023.
