Laila Majnu Re-Release Box Office: Avinash Tiwary, Triptii Dimri Film Gets Love In Theatres This Time

Laila Majnu, starring Avinash Tiwary and Triptii Dimri, has achieved success at the box office this time around and has collected more than Rs 2 crore in its first weekend.

Laila Majnu re-release: When Laila Majnu, starring Avinash Tiwary and Triptii Dimri, was released in 2018, it was a flop. Over time, the film gained its audience and received immense love, which led to the film’s re-release in theatres. The film has achieved success at the box office this time around and has collected more than Rs 2 crore in its first weekend which is higher than the first weekend of its original run in 2018. The film has also become the first Bollywood re-release to cross the Rs 1 crore mark in a single day at the box office.

Laila Majnu Box office collection

With this, the film is on its way to surpass its original lifetime earnings. Directed by Sajid Ali, the film originally grossed Rs 3.20 crore and Rs 2.72 crore nett in India. With its current momentum, the film is projected to reach around Rs 5 crore gross by the end of this re-release run.

However, despite its impressive collection, Laila Majnu may not remain in theatres for long. The film faces stiff competition with three new Bollywood releases including 'Stree 2' and several major South Indian films set to hit screens in just a few days. This influx of new releases will likely limit the number of screens available for the romantic drama.

Avinash Tiwary on the film's re-release

During the press conference where the film’s re-release was announced, Avinash said, “This is an incredible feeling. On the third day when I had gone to watch the film with my parents, the posters were being pulled down. Now, the film is still running houseful in Srinagar. This is a great feeling. The film would keep coming up in conversation to a point that it started irritating me, that enough it has been six years now! ‘Tab kyu nahi dekhne aaye the?’ that was my feeling when they’d share love. But now, the people have brought it back.”

Triptii Dimri on the film's re-release

Triptii Dimri also recalled the time when the film was released. She said in the press conference, “Back then, Avinash and I did feel bad. I would think that after the film, I would be so famous that I would not be able to go the market to buy vegetables!  None of that happened as people didn’t step out to watch the film in theatres. Today, people confess, ‘Galti ho gayi, wish we could watch it on the big screen.”

The romance drama is written and presented by Imtiaz and directed by his brother Sajid Ali. It is produced by Ali's former wife Preety and Ekta Kapoor.
