Gadar 2: Sunny Deol's Dialogue Receives Backlash In Pakistan

New Delhi: Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel starrer ‘Gadar 2’ is doing wonders at the box office with the audience going crazy over heavy-duty dialogues by Sunny Deol in the film. The film, like its prequel, is about Tara Singh (Sunny Deol) going to Pakistan for his family and fighting with Pakistanis single-handedly and winning. The film, high on jingoism, has dialogues that are loved by the audience and are earning whistles and claps in the movie hall but, as expected, have not gone down well with the people across the border.

In 'Gadar 2', Sunny Deol’s character says, “Agar Aaj bhi apke desh ke logon ko Bharat waapas jaane ka mauka mile… toh aadha Pakistan khali ho jayega” (Given a chance even today, half of Muslims from Pakistan would like to settle in India). This dialogue has been criticised by the Pakistani population.

A video by Pakistani media house 'The Dawn' is doing the rounds on social media, in which a journalist is seen asking Pakistani citizens about their reaction to 'Gadar 2' and the particular dialogue. A viewer said, “Sunny Deol mere saamne aa gaya, haqeeqat me, main dekh lunga iske baazuon mein kitna dam hai. Army to chhodo Pakistan Army to door ki baat hai.”

Another said, “As far as I know, the Pakistanis have defeated India in most of the wars,” The reporter then corrected the person and told him it was the other way around. Another one said that 'one Pakistani is equivalent to thousand Indians.'

Among all the criticism there were few who supported the dialogue because of Pakistan’s present economical condition. A  man said, “Aajkal jo Pakistan ke haalat hain, I think main Israel aur Afghanistan ke alawa kahin bhi jaana pasand karunga. India ka economical status zaahir hai humse better hai. Another said, “Bilkul chale jaayenge Pakistan. Log chale hi gaye hain, wahan kamaane ke liye. Yahan to log bhookhe mar rahe hain.”

Gadar 2 box office collection
Meanwhile, the film has entered the Rs 100 crore club in three days. The film had collected Rs 83.18 crore in the first two days of its release (Rs 40 crore and Rs 43 crore) and, on Sunday, registered a surge of over 20 percent and collected Rs 51.70 crore, bringing the total to Rs 134.88 crore net.

According to the makers, the film has created a "non-solo, non-holiday release's fastest 100-crore milestone",

‘Gadar 2’ is set in 1971 and follows Tara Singh's journey to Pakistan to rescue his son, Charanjeet Singh, from the Pakistani Army. The original was set during the Partition.
