Can Baida Replicate The Magic of Tumbbad And Kantara? Audience Awaits Friday’s Verdict

The upcoming sci-fi supernatural thriller 'Baida' is set to hit theaters on March 21, generating curiosity among moviegoers.

The upcoming sci-fi supernatural thriller 'Baida' is set to hit theaters on March 21, generating curiosity among moviegoers. At a time when cinema halls are witnessing a decline in footfalls, the film aims to offer a visually engaging experience. Its trailer, featuring impressive visuals and VFX, has received positive responses from audiences across age groups.

Backed by filmmaker-actor Sudhanshu Rai and Panorama Studios, 'Baida' is being positioned as a fresh and intriguing story, following the studio’s track record of successful thrillers like 'Drishyam' and 'Shaitaan'. With Rai’s experience in storytelling—spanning over 500 narratives across genres like thriller, horror, and the supernatural—the film is expected to offer something unique.

Rai has previously gained recognition for his horror-comedy 'Chaipatti' and the detective web series 'Detective Boomrah'. Collaborating once again with director Puneet Sharma, he hopes to bring an immersive experience to the big screen.

Sudhanshu Rai on Baida

Speaking about the film, Sudhanshu Rai shared, “We set out to create a new cinematic experience for our viewers, inspired by my listeners who have loved my stories. With a strong understanding of the needs of what the new-age viewers want, we made BAIDA, and co-incidentally met like-minded people on the way. Puneet Sharma, the director of the film, has worked with me since Chaipatti, and we both understand each other. We have shot in real locations, at a small village near Gorakhpur. While shooting in bitter cold in the months of January and February was challenging, it helped us create what we really wanted. Pratheek Shetty, the editor of Kantara, loved our film and has edited it too, and his impact on the film is unmissable. And the entire cast and crew too fit beautifully to create what we have been able to.”

About Baida

Baida follows the story of Ram Babu, a former spy turned salesman who finds himself caught in a mysterious dimensional conspiracy while visiting a small village in Uttar Pradesh. As he faces the threat of execution in British India, he must unravel how he got there and find a way back. The film incorporates elements of time travel while staying rooted in Indian culture, with dialogues in Bhojpuri to add a regional touch.

The film features a cast that includes Sourabh Raaj Jain, Hiten Tejwani, Tarun Khanna, Shobhit Sujay, Manisha Rai, and others. With comparisons being drawn to films like 'Kantara' and 'Tumbbad', it remains to be seen whether 'Baida' can replicate their success.
