The iconic Bollywood film 'Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai', starring Hrithik Roshan and Ameesha Patel, recently marked its 25th anniversary with a re-release in theatres. The film, which was an instant success, catapulted Hrithik and Ameesha into stardom. Ameesha recently opened up about a serious injury Hrithik sustained while filming one of the film’s climactic action scenes.
When Hrithik Roshan got injured while shooting for Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai
In an interview with Zoom, Ameesha shared details of the incident, recalling how Hrithik suffered a significant back injury during the climax shoot. The scene involved a high-intensity stunt where Hrithik had to make a jump, but things went awry. "When we were shooting the climax, when it was intense action, Hrithik had to take a jump and when he jumped, our hearts were in our mouths because Hrithik broke his back," Ameesha revealed. "I actually heard it. He fell, and his back was gone. We rushed him to the hospital at three in the morning," she added, describing the alarming moment when the actor was injured.
This injury not only caused immediate concern but also led to significant delays in the film's production. Ameesha explained that the injury forced Hrithik to take a long break to recover. “Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai got delayed by six months because Hrithik needed bed rest, and he had to go into rehab,” she said. She further mentioned the financial and logistical implications, including the costs of recreating the same set. “We came back, Rakesh uncle put on the same set. It, of course, cost a lot of money and there were also financial losses,” she continued.
About Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai
Directed by Hrithik’s father, Rakesh Roshan, 'Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai' became a breakthrough film for the young actor. Interestingly, Ameesha was brought on to the project at the last moment after Kareena Kapoor, initially cast to star opposite Hrithik, dropped out. Kareena had filmed a few scenes but later left the film and made her debut in Refugee instead, alongside Abhishek Bachchan.
Despite the challenges faced during production, 'Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai' went on to become a landmark film in the careers of both Hrithik and Ameesha. The duo later reunited for the 2002 film 'Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne Lage', but the movie failed to make an impact at the box office.
