Akshay Kumar Has Decided To Walk Away From Aanand L Rai's Gorkha, Know Why

'Gorkha' was allegedly going to be based on Major General Ian Cardozo's valorous actions during the war of 1971.

New Delhi: Actor Akshay Kumar had previously announced a movie titled 'Gorkha', which was allegedly going to be based on Major General Ian Cardozo's valorous actions during the war of 1971. However, he has now opted to give up the project.

A source told Hindustan Times that Akshay made the decision to leave the Sanjay Puran Singh film when concerns were raised regarding the authenticity of the plot.

“Some veterans from the unit that participated in the war alongside Major General Cardozo reached out, putting major question marks on Major General Cardozo’s version of the events. The actor has utmost respect for the armed forces and does not want to associate with a story which may have a shadow of doubt,” an insider reportedly told the publication.

Fans have been asking the actor for an update and wondering if the Aanand L Rai production—which was first announced in October 2021—has been put on hold.

The movie's first poster, which showed a fierce Akshay brandishing a curved knife or khukri. Manik M. Jolly, an ex-Gorkha officer, called attention to a major error in the poster. He explained that a traditional khukri differed from what the image depicted.

During the 1971 conflict, Major General Cardozo allegedly used a khukri to amputate his own leg after walking on a landmine.

Askhay Kumar hasn't officially confirmed the reports.
