83: Did Deepika Padukone DECLINE to star opposite Ranveer Singh in Kapil Dev biopic due to THIS reason?

New Delhi: After creating waves at the box office with ‘Padmaavat’ and ‘Simmba’, Ranveer Singh has started preparing for his role in the film ‘83’. The talented actor was spotted at JVPD grounds in Mumbai on Saturday (January 12) along with the film’s director Kabir Khan. Singh is essaying the role of Kapil Dev in the film which will focus on India’s 1983 cricket world cup victory. Speculations were rife that Deepika Padukone would play Ranveer’s on-screen wife in the film. 83: Woah! Deepika Padukone to play Ranveer Singh’s on-screen wife in Kapil Dev biopic? However, a report in a leading daily has suggested that Deepika has declined to be part of the film. It was said that director Kabir Khan believed the ‘Tamasha’ actress would be the perfect choice to play Kapil Dev’s wife Romi Bhatia as she and Ranveer and married in real life. DeepVeer fans have to wait a little longer to see them once again on the silver screen as Deepika has reportedly said no to the Kapil Dev biopic as she has little to do in it. “83 is a boys’ films. The focus is on Kapil Dev and his team bringing home the World Cup. Ranveer plays Kapil Dev. While Deepika playing his wife Romi sounds tempting, it’s just not true. Kapil Dev’s wife’s role will be very limited in this film and Deepika is a huge brand. She wouldn’t do any film just because her husband is in it,” a source from the production team Deccan Chronicle. Deepika and Ranveer have starred in films like ‘Ram Leela’, ‘Bajirao Mastani’ and ‘Padmaavat. All the three Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial have set the cash registers jingling. Talking about Deepika, the ‘Piku’ actress will start shooting for her next film ‘Chhapaak’ from March. The movie, which will be helmed by Meghna Gulzar, is based on acid attack survivior Laxmi Agarwal. Ranveer Singh is gearing up for the release of Zoya Aktar’s ‘Gully Boy’, which hit the cinema theatres on February 14. The musical drama also stars Alia Bhatt in lead role. The ‘Befikre’ actor also has ‘Takht’ in his kitty. Ranveer, who bagged the Best Actor Award at Star Screen Awards 2018, shared a picture on social media where he can be seen practicing for his role.
