Malayalam Actress Saranya Sasi Dies At 35 After Battling Cancer For 9 Years

Saranya Sasi shot into fame through hugely popular TV serials, later acted in Malayalam films alongside superstar Mohanlal and others.

It's all over for actress Saranya Sasi who after battling cancer for nine years, breathed her last at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, purportedly due to Covid-19 complications

The actress was 35 and hails from Kannur.

Saranya, who battled cancer for nearly a decade, had tested positive for Covid-19 in May, following which she was hospitalised. Though she tested negative a few weeks later, a bout of pneumonia and other respiratory issues prolonged her stay at the hospital. According to reports, she was in a critical condition in the last couple of weeks.

Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan condoled her demise in a Facebook post that reads: “Saranya’s battle with cancer without letting go of her self-confidence has generated inspiration and optimism for our society. When Kerala suffered monsoon-related damages, Saranya showed her social commitment and care for other people by taking out money meant for her treatment and donating it to the CM relief fund. I join in the grief of her friends and family.”

The actress shot into fame through hugely popular TV serials, later acted in Malayalam films alongside superstar Mohanlal and others.

It was in 2012 while shooting for a TV serial that she suddenly collapsed and it was later found that, there was a tumour in the brain.

Since then she underwent close to 10 surgeries and in between she also resumed her acting career briefly, but could not continue for long.

But things went haywire for her after she turned Covid positive in June and since then she has been fighting for her life, which finally ended on Monday morning.

Saranya’s noted work includes films like Chhota Mumbai, Thalappavu, Bombay March 12 and TV soaps like Kootukari, Avakashikal, Harichandanam, Malakhamar and Rahasyam.
