Taeil Pleads Guilty To Aggravated Rape Charges; Court Hears Disturbing Details Of The Case
Former NCT star Taeil admitted to all charges in a special quasi-rape case as prosecution reveals chilling details, including taxi GPS manipulation.

Moon Taeil, who debuted in 2016 and performed with NCT 127 and NCT U, was abruptly suspended from all group activities on August 28, 2024, when SM Entertainment released a statement confirming his implication in a sexual crime. The agency swiftly removed him from all promotional content, and his social media presence became private shortly after. His colleagues also distanced themselves, Taeyong deleted joint photos, and NCT’s official accounts unfollowed him.
Moon Taeil ‘Aggravated Rape’ case
On October 7, 2024, South Korean media reported that prosecutors were investigating Taeil for aggravated rape, a form of 'special quasi-rape' in Korean law. Allegedly, he and two acquaintances sexually assaulted an intoxicated woman, believed to be a foreign national, who was unable to resist after they met her at a club in Itaewon.
On February 28, 2025, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors formally indicted Taeil and his two friends under the Sexual Crimes Punishment Act. According to the prosecutor’s office, all three men raped the victim after forcing her into a cab and taking her to a residence in Bangbae-dong in June 2024.

Shocking Details of Moon Taeil trial
The trial commenced on June 18, 2025, when the court revealed chilling details. The trio allegedly met their victim at around 2:33 a.m., transported her to the defendant’s apartment, and raped her between 4:00 and 4:30 a.m. Prosecutors emphasized premeditation, citing text messages revealing they verified her nationality and planned GPS tampering to conceal their location.
During the first hearing, Taeil and his accomplices admitted to the charges. The prosecution is seeking seven years of imprisonment for each defendant. Taeil's lawyer noted that he had voluntarily surrendered and reached a private settlement with the victim, who has stated she does not wish for further punishment. “Taeil submitted a letter of self‑surrender to the police… and received a letter from the victim stating she did not want further punishment,” his counsel said.
This case marks another high-profile scandal in the Korean entertainment industry, following allegations earlier this year involving actor Kim Soo‑hyun. It underscores that “no idol is above the law” in a notoriously secretive and image-conscious culture.
With guilt admitted and a settlement in place, attention now turns to the court’s sentencing. Prosecutors are expected to press for a harsh sentence, compounded by the premeditated nature of the crime and the target's helpless condition. The outcome will not only affect Taeil’s future but may also set a precedent regarding accountability in the K‑pop industry.
