BLACKPINK's Jennie Talks About Pressures Of Being A K-Pop Idol On Dua Lipa's Podcast

New Delhi: In 2016, Jennie debuted with the YG Entertainment girl group BLACKPINK. Jennie spoke up about her life and career as a special guest on Dua Lipa's podcast, 'Dua Lipa: At Your Service,' where she discussed how she rose to fame to become one of the most well-known female K-pop artists. Jennie discussed the ups and downs of being a K-pop star, including the exhaustion that may come with performing night after night.

Jennie said that she felt restricted during her debut period as a result of the expectations of being a South Korean idol. During the podcast with Dua Lipa, Jennie discussed how the expectations placed on her as a K-pop star have prevented her from fully expressing herself. She said, “Starting my career in Korea as a K-pop artist has restricted so many sides of me where it wasn’t just allowed to be shown because I’m a K-pop idol."

"As things grew, over time, I was able to express myself and people would see it as breaking the boundaries rather than ‘she’s doing something that she's not allowed to do’ and being able to open a new chapter for people that are starting in the business in Korea," the K-pop idol added.

Jennie also spoke on the ways in which her mum had an impact on her development and personality. Jennie remarked, "My mom always had this wish that I would experience not just my culture and my country back home, but also travel the world and be that person who is free everywhere I go."

Jennie also addressed the criticism she got throughout her concerts. She said it was particularly painful since she is more prone to self-harm than Jisoo, Rose, and Lisa.

Jennie has been busy with both Blackpink's World Tour and her own solo endeavours. She also debuted in the acting world on HBO's The Idol.
