'72 Hoorain' Trailer Out Amid Controversy Over No Objection Certificate From Censor Board

New Delhi: The trailer of the controversial film '72 Hoorain' has been released. The black and white trailer of '72 Hoorain' is based on the Mumbai Taj Mahal blasts. The Hindi-language film has been directed by Sanjay Piran Singh Chauhan and will be released on July 7, 2023. The film is set to be released in English and 10 other Indian languages. The film stars Pavan Malhotra as Hakim Ali and Aamir Bashir as Bilal Ahmed.

The trailer opens with the Taj Hotel Mumbai blast executed by two terrorists played by Pavan Malhotra and Aamir Bashir's characters on the promise of 72 Hoorain ( or 72 virgin maidens in heaven). The suicide attacks in the name of Jihad then follows the back story of religious terrorism and the two characters questioning the premise of the jihad philosophy which made them the promise of martyrdom in heaven.
The trailer of '72 Hoorain' was shared soon after the makers shared the announcement of a No Objection Certificate being given to the trailer of the film.On June 27, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had denies certification to the trailer of Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan's upcoming film.
As per media reports, Ashoke Pandit, the co-producer of the movie also appealed to Anurag Thakur, Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting ( I&B Ministry) and Prasoon Joshi, Chairperson, CBFC to let his film's trailer have a smooth release.
At the trailer launch, Pandit questioned the move by CBFC of not issuing a NOC on June 27 and emphasized that when all visuals of the trailer have been taken from the trailer, why the objection to its launch on Wednesday.
Earlier, this month, '72 Hoorain' was under the eye of controversy for its misleading claims in its teaser released on June 6. The film had allegedly also received backlash from prominent religious groups and political leaders in Kashmir for the negative portrayal of Muslims in it.
