Deadpool & Wolverine Box Office Collection Day 3: Shawn Levy's Marvel film 'Deadpool & Wolverine,' starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, continues to set new records at the box office, both domestically and globally. According to Sacnilk, the film has surpassed ₹60 crore in its opening weekend at the domestic box office.
Domestic Opening Weekend
The film saw a slight decrease in earnings at the Indian box office on Sunday, collecting ₹22.50 crore, compared to ₹22.65 crore on Saturday. It had opened with ₹21 crore on Friday, bringing its total domestic opening weekend collection to ₹66.15 crore.
US Box Office
'Deadpool & Wolverine' grossed $205 million in the US and Canada over the weekend, marking the biggest domestic debut of the year. It also achieved the highest-ever opening for an R-rated film, more than doubling the ticket sales of Warner Bros.' 'Joker' during its first weekend. 'Joker' went on to become the highest-grossing R-rated film in history, with over $1 billion in box office revenue since its 2019 release.
About Deadpool and Wolverine
In this third installment of the 'Deadpool' franchise, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman reprise their roles as the foul-mouthed superhero and the X-Men mutant, respectively. The rights to these characters were acquired by Disney in the $71.3 billion purchase of 21st Century Fox in 2019, and they are considered significant assets alongside other intellectual properties like 'Avatar.'
The success of 'Deadpool & Wolverine' boosts the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), which comprises 34 interconnected films and is the most successful movie franchise in Hollywood history, having grossed over $30 billion. The superhero genre has faced challenges recently, with several films underperforming, including 'Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,' 'The Marvels,' and DC's 'The Flash' and 'Shazam! Fury of the Gods,' which struggled to recoup their production costs.
The film's performance signals a turnaround for Disney's film division, which hadn't been profitable since April 2022. Globally, 'Deadpool & Wolverine' has sold $438 million worth of tickets. Prior to this, the biggest opening weekend of the year in the US and Canada was for 'Inside Out 2,' which has grossed $1.46 billion worldwide since its June release.
