After Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer Runs Housefull In Kashmir

This is a delightful weekend for moviegoers as the two most-anticipated Hollywood films, Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’ and Greta Gerwig’s ‘Barbie’ releases today.

New Delhi: This is a delightful weekend for moviegoers as the two most-anticipated Hollywood films, Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’ and Greta Gerwig’s ‘Barbie’ releases today. Both the films have created enough buzz, but between the two 'Oppenheimer', a biographical drama on the titular American theoretical physicist, is expected to do better numbers than 'Barbie', a live-action film on the world-famous Mattel doll. According to BookMyShow, the film has sold over 3 lakh tickets since advance booking started three weeks ago.

It seems the ‘Oppenheimer’ buzz has reached Kashmir also, as according to reports, the film is sold out in Kashmir. According to Indian Express, the only theatre in the Valley is reporting sold-out status, the feat that was last achieved during Shah Rukh Khan’s 'Pathaan'.  

“When we reopened the theatre after 33 years, we were not expecting much. However, when Pathaan released, it ran to full houses. But after Pathaan, to see the reaction of people for Oppenheimer, is quite a surprise. It’s good to see that people are open to watching a good movie like the Cillian Murphy-starrer,” Vijay Dhar, who runs Kashmir’s lone cinema theatre in association with Inox, told Indian Express. 

Dhar is also surprised by the response for a Hollywood film. “It is a very important event because it is not Pathaan, it is not Shan Rukh Khan or Salman Khan, it is Oppenheimer, a movie which I don’t even know how people got to know about in the first place… maybe through social media. One would expect Bollywood films to do well here, but for a Hollywood film to do so well in Kashmir is really a precursor to change here,” Dhar was quoted as saying by Indian Express. 

'Oppenheimer' is an adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize–winning novel American Prometheus by Kai Bird and the late Martin J. Sherwin, which is based on the life of nuclear physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, widely known as the 'Father of the Nuclear Bomb'. In the massive biopic, actor Cillian Murphy is portraying the role of J. Robert Oppenheimer. Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Jack Quaid, Benny Safdie, and Rami Malek are all featured in the movie.
