New Delhi: The prestigious Golden Globe Awards is back with its 80th edition. The annual award show is currently underway and is broadcast live from The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, and users of Lionsgate Play can tune in from anywhere in the country. It is also available on OTT play Premium for streaming.
Golden Globes coverage in Malaysia and the Philippines will also be available exclusively on Lionsgate Play.
The Golden Globe Awards, that began in 1944 to recognise excellence in both American and International film and television, are bestowed by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
The first Golden Globe Awards, honoring the best achievements in 1943 filmmaking, were held in January 1944, at the 20th Century Fox studios. Subsequent ceremonies were held at various venues throughout the next decade, including the Beverley Hills Hotel and the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.
The 13th Golden Globe Awards held in February 1956 saw the first Golden Globe in Television Achievement. The first three permanent television award categories, Best TV Series, Best TV Actor, and Best TV Actress, then made their debuts during the 19th Golden Globe Awards held in March 1962.
The 80th annual Golden Globe Awards will be hosted in its traditional site, the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, which was established by Paris Hilton's great-grandfather, Conrad Hilton in 1955. The Golden Globes will be airing live again after a two-year boycott of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) after criticism arose about the group's lack of diversity as well as unethical business practices in the organization.
SS Rajamouli's magnum opus drama 'RRR' has been nominated in two categories, Best Foreign Film and Best Original Song for the chartbuster 'Naatu Naatu' at the 80th Golden Globes. The film is an epic period drama based on the lives of two Indian revolutionaries Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem in the 1920s. The film's ensemble cast included the likes of Jr. NTR, Ram Charan, Shriya Saran, Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Ajay Devgn, Ray Stevenson, Alison Doody and Olivia Morris.
Jerrod Carmichael, a past recipient of the Emmy, will serve as host for this year's ceremony. Meanwhile, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has revealed an all-star lineup of speakers for the event, including Jamie Lee Curtis, Ana de Armas, Tracy Morgan, Quentin Tarantino, Michaela Jae Rodriguez, Natasha Lyonne, Ana Gasteyer, and Billy Porter. The ceremony is set to include tributes to producer Ryan Murphy with the Carol Burnett Award, while actor Eddie Murphy will receive the Cecil B DeMille Award.
