Exclusive | 'Sunny Sir Is Tara Singh, There Is Literally No Difference...'- Gaurav Chopra On Working With Sunny Deol In 'Gadar 2'

Gaurav Chopra spoke about Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel and how phenomenal they have been in the film, while also giving a peek into his character.

New Delhi: From 'Udd Jaa Kaale Kaawa' to 'Mai Nikla Gaddi Le Ke', 'Gadar 2' is all set to come back with the old flavour and a lot more with it. Starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel, the film is all set for its release. To know more about it and get some tidbits, ABP Live caught up with Gaurav Chopra who plays the role of Colonel Raawat in the film. Gaurav spoke about Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel and how phenomenal they have been in the film, while also giving a peek into his character. But, he didn't reveal much, for he didn't want to "kill all the excitement."

Sharing his experience of working with Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel, he said, "Such a privilege. I saw Ameesha on the first day of the shoot and I was like... She looked as if the 22 years haven't passed for her. She still looked exactly how she looked in the first part and she is so fit. We were shooting in Himachal in December, the weather was also very cold and I wanted to ask her 'what is your magic formula? what are you eating? But, I didn't. We just focussed on the scenes. I think, she will surprise the audience."

Talking about Sunny Deol, he said, "Sunny Sir is Tara Singh, there is literally no difference. He is as shy, as grounded ... Woh truly hamaare desh ki mitti ke hai. He has no airs of being a superstar, being a legendary actor. He is so friendly, but the moment the camera starts, he becomes explosive. This whole softness and explosive fire that he has are the contrasts that Tara Singh has."

"Tara Singh will love you, Tara Singh will take care of you, Tara Singh will be affectionate and will laugh and joke with you, but if he has to protect you, he will fight with an entire nation. And, Sunny Sir is like that. So, it became very surreal in a way... The character that I has seen as a child myself , I saw it with my own eyes and he would go there and start delivering his lines and everybody would have goosebumps. And, I was telling Anil Ji, 'Agar humlog yaha baithe hai aur humaare goosebumps ho rahe hai toh audience ko honge hi.", he further went on to say.

Gaurav then went on to share a bit about his role and said, "I play Colonel Raawat. The film has two major parts- one part is the family drama that happens in the backdrop of the 1971 India Pakistan War, and in this backdrop, you can think of Colonel Raawat as the hero of that part... He is that soldier of the country because of whom you feel safe. He is that epitome of being the honest soldier for the motherland."

"This is one of those roles in which the number of scenes do not matter becuase every moment on screen, is a special moment. Anil Ji had said- 'It's a special role that I want to give you' and he was right," he added.

He didn't expalin further as he did not want to kill the excitement that people have.

'Gadar 2' is all set to hit the theatres on August 11, 2023. The film, directed and produced by Anil Sharma brings back the 22-year-old Tara Singh-Sakheena love story and a lot more thrill along with it as it based on the backdrop of the 1971 'Crush India' campaign by Pakistan.
