Crazy Rich Asians Fame Constance Wu Reveals She Attempted Suicide After Twitter Backlash In 2019

On Thursday, Constance wrote a long message to her admirers on Twitter in which she said that in 2019, she came dangerously close to suicide.

New Delhi: On Thursday, Hollywood actress Constance Wu, most known for her role in the film ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ made her comeback to Twitter nearly after three years. After receiving a significant amount of trolling for her tweets on social media in 2019, Constance Wu has said that she made an attempt to take her own life.

On Thursday, Constance wrote a long message to her admirers on Twitter in which she said that in 2019, she came dangerously close to suicide.

The actress wrote, “I was afraid of coming back on social media because I almost lost my life from it: 3 years ago, when I made careless tweets about the renewal of my TV show, it ignited outrage and internet shaming that got pretty severe. I felt awful about what I’d said, and when a few DMs from a fellow Asian actress told me I’d become a blight on the Asian American community, I started feeling like I didn’t even deserve to live anymore. That I was a disgrace to AsAms, and they’d be better off without me. Looking back, it’s surreal that a few DMs convinced me to end my own life, but that’s what happened. Luckily, a friend found me and rushed me to the ER.”

Wu, 40 years old, is a native Virginian who was born to parents who emigrated from Taiwan. Currently, you can see her in ‘The Terminal List’ on Amazon Prime Video.

Constance played the role of Jessica Huang in the ABC comedy series 'Fresh Off the Boat' from 2015 until 2020. In the 2018 film 'Crazy Rich Asians,' she played the role of Rachel Chu, an American professor who fell in love with a Singaporean multimillionaire named Nick.
