Cigarettes After Sex Cancels Bengaluru Gig Over Local Production Issues: ‘We’re Heartbroken’

The indie-pop band Cigarettes After Sex was forced to call off their scheduled performance in Bengaluru due to unforeseen production issues.

Amid all the hype around Coldplay’s recent concerts in India for their grandeur and record-breaking attendance, the indie-pop band Cigarettes After Sex had a far less fortunate experience. The band was forced to call off their scheduled performance in Bengaluru due to unforeseen production issues. Taking to Instagram, the group expressed their regret and apologised to their fans for the last-minute cancellation.

Cigarettes After Sex released statement on cancellation

In their statement, the band clarified that the decision was beyond their control. Their post read, “We’re heartbroken to announce that due to technical difficulties which were the responsibility of local production at the venue & beyond our control, we’re unable to perform & unfortunately have to cancel tonight’s show in Bengaluru. We’re so incredibly sorry we can’t see you all tonight & truly tried everything we could to make it happen. BookMyShow will reach out to you with information on refunds for the show as well. love you so much...”

Along with the statement the band posted a caption, "unfortunately the local production had technical difficulties they couldn’t fix. we tried everything we could to make the show happen, but the problems are with the local production & beyond our control. we waited months & months to see you & are heartbroken that there’s nothing we can do. love you all & are so sorry for this🖤…"

Fans react

The abrupt cancellation left many fans frustrated, leading them to express their disappointment in the comments section. Several compared the incident to Coldplay’s flawless execution in Ahmedabad. One fan wrote, “Sad… next time shift your venue to the place which manages well like in Ahmedabad.” Another remarked, “Sorry to say Ahmedabad is better.” A particularly upset fan commented, “This is seriously so negligible on your part as well as the ‘local production.’ Y’all never think of the fans who are standing and waiting and buying your tickets much in advance just to see a glimpse of you.”

Meanwhile, Coldplay concluded their India Tour on January 26 in Ahmedabad with their biggest concert ever. Their final show in Ahmedabad on Sunday night drew a staggering crowd of 1,34,000 fans.
