New Delhi: Jani Chacko, the second husband of Usha Uthup, passed away. The 78-year-old died due to a cardiac arrest in Kolkata on Monday. The couple lived a private life in their hometown. While not much is known about the tea connosieur, here is what we know about him.

About Jani Chacko

Jani Chacko Uthup was born in 1946. He was the son of Brigadier CC Uthup and hails from a Syrian Christian family in Kottayam. Jani grew up in Mdras( now Chennai) and then shifted to Kolkata  where he met his future wife Usha Uthup at the nightclub Trincas in 1969 during her show.

Usha Uthup's second husband Jani Uthup worked with the tea fraternity J Thomas & Co. He also played a key role in India's tea plantation industry. His work in the industry goes back to 1967. Jani Chacko Uthup worked with Thomas, Cumberlege and Inskipp in London.

As per Vikas Kumar Jha's book 'The Queen of Indian Pop: The Authorised Biography of Usha Uthup', she was still married to her first husband Ramu at the time when she met Jani. During interaction between her gigs, Jani and Usha fell in love, and later decided to get married post Usha and Ramu's split.

Usha and Jani's romance was quite a thing as Usha, as per Jha's writings in her biography, ended her five year-long marrieage with Jani.

On the other had, Usha Uthup was conferred the Padma Bhushan by the government of India this year. She's been singing in Bollywood since early 1970s. She also has been singing in Bollywood since the early 70s and has sung in different industries. She has also sung in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu movies. Usha has also done cameos in films like '7 Khoon Maaf'.
