'If Someone Comes And Says, Hey I'm God, It Doesn't Make You God': Vivek Agnihotri On Failure Of Adipurush

Vivek Agnihotri has given his thought on Adipurush's failure and the reasons for the widespread criticism it sparked. 

Vivek Agnihotri also slammed Prabhas portrayal of Ram.

New Delhi: Vivek Agnihotri has a reputation for always voicing his opinion. The filmmaker recently addressed the failure of Om Raut's ‘Adipurush’. In ‘Adipurush’, Prabhas portrayed Lord Ram, Kriti Sanon played Sita, and Saif Ali Khan played Ravana; the film was a reenactment of the Hindu classic Ramayana. Both moviegoers and reviews mostly did not enjoy the film. Vivek has given some thought to the film's failure and the reasons for the widespread criticism it sparked. 

Vivek Agnihotri said, in a recent interview with The Times of India, “When you make something you don’t believe in, just because aajkal ye chal raha hai (today this topic is trending), you are definitely going to go wrong. When you pick up stories of faith, either you yourself should have 100% conviction or you should be well versed in the subject like a historian, but unfortunately no one does that in India.”

According to the director, no one will ever be able to accept stars for the Mahabharata or the Ramayana. He said, “Anybody who will try to take stars for either Mahabharat or Ramayan, will never be able to complete it… There’s a reason why Mahabharat, Bhagavad Gita and Ramayana have been entrenched in everyone’s psyche for years. If something has lasted for 5000 years, there has to be a reason for it.” 

Slamming Prabhas’ role in the film, Vivek said, "If someone comes on screen and says, Hey I'm God, it doesn't make you God. If you are being driven home drunk every night, you cannot turn around tomorrow and say I'm God, believe me. Nobody is going to believe that. People are not idiots."

Meanwhile, Vivek's next film ‘The Vaccine War’ is set to release this Dussehra.
