Satyameva Jayate 2 Director Says John Abraham Was 'Upset' After Film's Failure: 'He Went Into A Shell'
In a recent interview, director Milap Zaveri reflects on John Abraham's response to 'Satyameva Jayate 2' failure.
New Delhi: The disappointing reception of John Abraham's 2021 action film 'Satyameva Jayate 2' deeply affected him, leading him to distance himself from director Milap Zaveri for a period of time. Recently, Milap Zaveri addressed the rift that had developed between him and John after the film failed to live up to expectations. According to Zaveri's discussion with Siddharth Kannan, John was "upset" and cut off communication with him for two or three months.
Director Milap Zaveri recalled how he used to nickname Abraham "Ram" and compared himself to "Hanuman." He then took full responsibility for the film's flaws and admitted that he could have grown too hooked with the actor.
Speaking to Siddharth Kanan, Milap shared, “There was a period of about two to three months when he wasn’t communicating. I reached out through phone calls and messages, and he eventually replied saying, ‘Milap, I’m very sad.’ He didn’t say he was upset with me; he said he was sad because he had a lot riding on this film, he was very excited, and he was upset that it didn’t work out. He went into a shell. But later, we talked. I met John, and we hugged it out. John told me, ‘I will do a film with you. I love you; I believe in you as a director. When a great script comes, I will work with you.’”
In retrospect, Milap said that he owed a great deal of his success to John Abraham, drawing parallels between the actor and industry greats like Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan. He compared Abraham to the Hulk and said that Abraham was a rockstar who could do incredible things.
In spite of the initial rift, Milap has said that he and Abraham are friends again, albeit they aren't as close as they once were.
