Muzammil Ibrahim Shares He Dated Deepika Padukone For Two Years: 'She Asked Me Out, I Broke Up'

Model-turned-actor Muzammil Ibrahim has made headlines after revealing that he dated Bollywood star Deepika Padukone in the early 2000s, during her initial days in Mumbai.

Model-turned-actor Muzammil Ibrahim has made headlines after revealing that he dated Bollywood star Deepika Padukone in the early 2000s, during her initial days in Mumbai. Speaking to Siddharth Kannan in a recent interview, Muzammil shared that their relationship lasted two years and began shortly after Deepika moved to the city to begin her modelling journey.

“We were in a relationship for two years,” he revealed, adding that he was the first person Deepika met in Mumbai. Back then, both were still trying to make a name for themselves in the modelling industry. “She was very confident because she is Prakash Padukone’s daughter so everyone knew about her,” he said, noting that it was Deepika who initiated their romance.

Recalling the simplicity of their time together, Muzammil fondly remembered their budget-friendly outings. “We were kids then. We would go on dates in a rickshaw in the rains. That was very cute. I had more money than her because I had started earning better. Then I bought a car and she was very happy about that. These things are very memorable because I have not been on a date in a rickshaw since then, and we were so happy even though we had no money.”

He also shared a sweet memory of celebrating Deepika’s birthday by convincing a DJ to play her favourite song on loop for over an hour, even when they barely had money.

 “Even with no money, the DJ would play the song that she liked because I was friends with the DJ. For an hour and a half, he just played that song because it was her birthday,” he shared.

Deepika and Muzammil are cordial with each other now

Although their paths have long diverged—Muzammil said he ended the relationship—they stayed in occasional contact until Deepika’s wedding to Ranveer Singh in 2019. “Before she got married, we would talk sometimes,” he said, adding that they eventually became cordial enough to exchange congratulatory messages.

“She is a superstar now. Everyone knows her, nobody knows me. I am a big fan. I love watching her movies. She is a beautiful woman. She is doing so great but the fact is what it is,” he said with admiration.

Deepika Padukone married Ranveer Singh in 2019, and the couple recently welcomed their first child, a daughter named Dua, in 2024.
