Jasleen Royal Opens Up About Emotional Toll Of Trolling After Coldplay Concert In New Documentary

Singer Jasleen Royal has released a mini-documentary titled 'Dare To Dream', offering a behind-the-scenes look at her experience.

New Delhi: Singer, musician and composer Jasleen Royal has finally responded after months of receiving harsh criticism for her performance as Coldplay's opening act at their Mumbai show. The artist opens up about the emotional toll it had on her in a new mini-documentary called Dare To Dream, providing viewers with a glimpse behind the scenes.

In the newly released video, Jasleen reflects on the scathing online criticism she got after her Day 1 performance at the DY Patil Stadium, looking clearly frightened and teary-eyed. She went through a lot of emotional pain reading all the nasty comments and bullying on social media, as seen in the video.

She breaks down at a particularly emotional moment, stating, "After a certain point, I can feel it, like it's time to go home. There’s a lot of pressure. I’ll die. I swear I’ll die.”

As she prepared for her performance on Day 2 of the event, her crew was there to give her support and motivation.

Jasleen talked about how she felt pressured to wow her audience with a performance they would never forget. She said, “I am nervous. I don’t want people to think that she didn’t deserve to be here. Or ‘Why is she here? We just want Coldplay. We don’t like her music.’ I am a self-taught musician. So, I know I am not perfect. I keep learning every day. I try to better myself every day. But I try to put up a great show that people have a great experience. I’m just trying to put out my best effort that they also feel that was a good opening act we selected from India. And that’s all the pressure I’m taking. Nothing much."

Online Trolls

As the first Indian performer to open for Coldplay at DY Patil Stadium during their Music of the Spheres global tour, Jasleen created history.  However, concertgoers and internet users harshly criticised her Day 1 performance, calling it "out-of-tune" and a "mismatch" for the band's international feel.
