Anurag Kashyap Says Siddhant Chaturvedi's Comment Changed Something In Ananya Panday

Anurag Kashyap praised Ananya Panday’s evolution post Siddhant Chaturvedi’s viral nepotism remark, saying “something flipped” in her and also blamed star parents for holding their kids back.

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has opened up about the journey of star kids in the film industry, shedding light on how the burden of legacy and overprotective parenting can sometimes stifle their growth. Speaking in an interview with The Juggernaut, Kashyap offered praise for a handful of young talents while also making a pointed observation about how some struggle under the shadow of their famous surnames.

When asked to name his favourite star kids in the business, Kashyap said, “Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Ananya, and Ayan Mukerji. There’s Dhanush in the South. There are lots of people, Fahadh Faasil.”

In particular, he singled out Ananya Panday, noting a significant shift in her approach and performances following her viral 2019 exchange with 'Gehraiyaan' co-star Siddhant Chaturvedi, where he had responded to her comments on struggle with the much-shared line: “The only difference is jahan humare sapne poore hote hain, wahan inka struggle shuru hota hai.”

Referring to that moment as a turning point for Panday, Anurag said, I think she has figured out. That one thing that happened long back in an interview when Siddhant Chaturvedi said that ‘Our struggles begin when yours end’, I think she took it very personally. I think something happened, altered inside her, because something about her changed after that.”

He went on to compliment her choices in films like Kho Gaye Hum Kahan and CTRL, adding, “Something flipped inside her and she found herself or she is on the path to find herself. Whatever it is, she is doing great stuff. She took a risk, she is taking risks and she is quite nature. She experiments and is not playing safe unlike others.”

Kashyap feels families over involved in star children's career

Kashyap also touched upon a larger issue that plagues many celebrity children—their parents. He believes that many of them don’t get the space to take ownership of their careers because their families are overly involved. “Kids actually are much more smart. More than the kids, I think the parents are not letting the kids be, or make their choices. For the sake of safety, the parental thing kicks in that I know better and I will protect my children, and give them a very successful career. That’s where the problem is. Let them go out and do things normally on their own. The problem doesn’t lie with the kids, it lies with their parents,” he said.
