Aamir Khan Says He Has 10 Years Of Active Life Remaining: 'Let Me Make My Last 10 Years Most Productive'
Aamir made an unprecedented decision to take on six projects simultaneously, a stark contrast to his usual one-film-at-a-time approach. In a recent interview, he shared the reason behind his decision.
Veteran actor Aamir Khan, who has been a cornerstone of Indian cinema for nearly four decades, considered stepping away from the industry during the pandemic. Following the underwhelming performance of 'Laal Singh Chaddha' in 2022, Aamir announced a break from acting, citing the need to reconnect with his family after years of professional commitments.
Aamir on taking six projects together
When he returned, Aamir made an unprecedented decision to take on six projects simultaneously, a stark contrast to his usual one-film-at-a-time approach. In a recent conversation with The Hollywood Reporter India, the actor spoke about the change in mindset.
“I have never taken up six movies together in my life. This time, I had my own reason for it,” Aamir explained. “When I finally decided that, ‘Okay, I won’t leave films yet,’ the next thought came to me that this is probably the last 10 years of my active working life.”
During the interview, his ex-wife and filmmaker Kiran Rao, who joined the discussion, dismissed the idea of Aamir being in the twilight of his career. She pointed to the example of Clint Eastwood, the legendary 97-year-old Hollywood actor and filmmaker, to which Aamir responded, “You guys are giving an extreme example. He is one of the rare people who is in his 90s and still thinking straight.”
Aamir feels he has roughly 10 years of active life
Reflecting on life’s unpredictability, Aamir added, “You can’t trust life, we might die tomorrow. So, I am saying, I roughly have 10 years of active life. I am 59. Till I am 70, I will hopefully be well enough to be productive. So, then I thought, let me make my last 10 years the most productive. More than that, as I am getting older, I want to support talent which I believe in—writers, directors, all creative people. I want to become a platform for talents I believe in before I retire at 70. That’s why I took up more films.”
Aamir Khan on retirement
Aamir also shared his thoughts on retirement, hinting at his longing for a slower-paced life. Recalling a family discussion when he almost announced his retirement, Kiran Rao shared, “Can you imagine him sitting around and not doing any movies and doing nothing? His daughter told him, ‘Please papa, you can’t spend all your time with us, we will go crazy.’” To this, Aamir humorously added, “I would love a retired life. Reading books, doing Yoga.”
Aamir will next be seen in ‘Sitaare Zameen Par.’
