The evening, held in Mumbai ahead of the film’s theatrical re-release, saw the 91-year-old icon croon 'Yeh Kya Jagah Hai Doston', a timeless track from the 1981 classic.

Bhosle was joined on stage by none other than Rekha, who starred in the titular role, and director Muzaffar Ali. A video from the event has been making waves on social media, showing the singer performing the beloved number while Rekha held her in a warm embrace.

In a candid moment that had the audience chuckling, Bhosle quipped mid-song, “Mera gala dabba rahi hai,” teasing Rekha as she held her close. The veteran actress burst into laughter, and the audience responded with applause and cheer.

Umrao Jaan screening and re-release

The evening was nothing short of magical, with stars like Alia Bhatt, Anil Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor, Khushi Kapoor, Aamir Khan, Tabu and others turning up to celebrate the cinematic gem. The restored version of 'Umrao Jaan' is set to hit theatres once again on June 27, as part of a heritage revival initiative.

The restoration was carried out by the National Film Development Corporation-National Film Archive of India under the National Film Heritage Mission. Set in 19th-century Lucknow, 'Umrao Jaan' tells the story of Amiran, a young girl sold into a brothel, portrayed by Rekha in one of her most iconic performances. The film also featured Farooque Shaikh, Raj Babbar, and Naseeruddin Shah in key roles.
