New Delhi: Aamir Khan’s much-awaited film ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ is all set to release on August 11. The film is an official adaptation of Tom Hank’s film ‘Forrest Gump’.
During the film’s promotion, Aamir revealed that his son Junaid had also auditioned for the title role. The actor said that his son after returning from LA, where he was studying at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, shot a test video and when Aamir saw the video he was pleasantly surprised as he felt Junaid was a perfect fit for the role.
“As soon as I saw the test video, I was blown away. I knew mera chance gaya (I thought my chance has gone). That innocence of Laal that we were planning to get was out there while I would have to act it out. The innocence on his face was Laal Singh and I would have had to work incredibly hard to get there. I don’t have that innocence anymore and he did that naturally. Junaid was simply outstanding and I felt he was the right guy to play the part. I showed the film to close to 100 people including my family, friends, and colleagues from Raju Hirani, Karan Johar to Aditya Chopra, and 98 felt that I should take him,” Aamir told the media.
The scriptwriter of the film Atul Kulkarni and filmmaker Aditya Chopra wanted Aamir Khan to play the title role. He had also shaved off his beard since talks were on to cast Junaid but for practical and monetary reasons he agreed to play the part.
