The polling for second phase of urban civic body began at 7 am and will continue till 6 in the evening. Around 1.92 crore registered voters will exercise their franchise across 38 districts of the state to elect their representatives for the civic bodies.
Of the 38 districts, seven of them will vote to elect the mayor. These seven districts are Meerut, Ghaziabad, Bareilly, Aligarh, Kanpur, Ayodhya, and Shahjahanpur. 83 candiadtes are in fray for the mayoral post in these seven districts while 581 posts are up for grab with 3,840 candidates, as per the State Election Commission.
State Election Commissioner Manoj Kumar told ABP Ganga, 969 candidates are in the fray for the post of chairman of 95 municipal councils and 13315 candidates for 2520 members of municipal councils. 2942 candidates are in the fray for the post of 267 presidents of Nagar Panchayats and 17997 candidates for the post of 3459 members of Nagar Panchayats.
6,111 polling places and 1,798 polling stations have been set up in the seven districts where polling will be held for mayor and councillors with 39,69,294 men and 34,57,512 women registered to vote.
Similarly, 8,198 polling places and 2,537 polling stations have been set up in 95 municipal councils. Kumar informed that 5,309 polling places and 2,043 polling stations have been set up for 268 Nagar Panchayats and 3,495 Nagar Panchayat wards.
Among the 38 districts that are undergoing polls today include Meerut, Hapur, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Ghaziabad, Baghpat, Bulandshahr, Bareilly, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Pilibhit, Aligarh, Hathras, Kasganj, Eta, Kanpur Nagar, Farrukhabad, Etawa, Kannauj, Auraiyya, Kanpur Dehat, Chitrakoot, Hamirpur, Mahoba Banda, Ayodhya, Sultanpur, Ambedkar Nagar, Barabanki, Amethi, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar Siddharthnagar, Azamgarh, Mau, Ballia, Mirzapur, Sonbhadra, and Bhadohi.
The polling for the first phase of urban civic body polls in the state took place on May 4.
Over 40% Voter Turnout Recorded Till 3 PM
Until 3 pm on Thursday, 40.80% of eligible voters had cast their ballots in the last phase of the urban local body elections in Uttar Pradesh. The Samajwadi Party has accused supporters of the ruling BJP of engaging in electoral misconduct, particularly in Kannauj.
Over 30% Voter Turnout Recorded Till 1 PM
Voter turnout of 30.80 per cent was recorded in the first six hours of the final phase of the urban local body polls in Uttar Pradesh with the Samajwadi Party alleging that supporters of the ruling BJP were indulging in election malpractices, especially in Kannauj.
BJP Candidate Taken Into Police Custody In Meerut
BJP candidate of Ward 58 of Meerut Anshul Gupta has been detained by the police. Independent candidate Sumit has also been detained by the police. Both were accusing each other of fake voting. Police station Civil Line has taken them into custody.
UP Nikay Chunav 2023 Live: Voter Turnout Highest In Gautam Buddha Nagar, 28.23% Till 11 AM
The voter turnout has been the highest In Gautam Budh Nagar till 11 am (28.23%). While on the other hand, Kanpur Nagar has the lowest voter turnout of 14.27%.
Voters Prevented From Casting Vote In Azamgarh's Maharajganj, Alleges SP
Samajwadi Party has alleged that the voters are being prevented from casting their vote in Azamgarh's Maharajganj.
