UP MLC Election: BJP won four out of five seats, whereas an independent candidate won one. The Samajwadi Party faced defeat in all five seats.

New Delhi: Counting on all the five seats in the Uttar Pradesh MLC election came to an end on Friday morning. Bharatiya Janata Party won four out of five seats, whereas an independent candidate won one. The Samajwadi Party faced defeat in all five seats. As far as BJP is concerned, it has won the Bareilly-Moradabad block graduate seat, Gorakhpur-Faizabad graduate seat, Kanpur-Unnao graduate block, and Jhansi-Allahabad teacher block seat in the elections.

The independent candidate has won the Kanpur teacher's block seat. BJP's Dr. Jai Pal Singh Busy has won the graduate seat in the Bareilly-Moradabad segment. He defeated the SP candidate by a margin of 51,257 votes. Singh Busy has won the seat for the third time in a row.

Apart from this, BJP's Devendra Pratap Singh has defeated SP candidate Karunakant Maurya in the Gorakhpur Faizabad's graduate block seat. He won by a margin of 17,562 votes. On the other hand, BJP candidate Arun Pathak defeated SP's Kamlesh Yadav by 9331 votes in the Kanpur-Unnao graduate block seat. However, the results did not favour the BJP on the Kanpur teacher block seat. Independent candidate Raj Bahadur Chandel registered a win in this seat. He was in the lead and maintained the lead until the very end. The SP has suffered a major setback in this election. The party has not won any seats.

Earlier on Thursday, amidst the counting of votes in the UP MLC elections, Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak had said that BJP will win the elections on all five seats. Voting for five Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council seats — three graduates and two teachers constituencies — were done peacefully on Monday, January 30.
