Election 2022 Voting HIGHLIGHTS: Hello and welcome to ABP Live for our LIVE coverage of polling day! In Uttar Pradesh, polling concluded for the first of the seven-phase Assembly election today in 58 assembly constituencies from 11 districts.
Assembly seats that went for polling today were mainly from the Western UP region.
Polling for the first phase in the UP assembly election 2022 was conducted from 7 am to 6 pm. In the first phase of the UP assembly election 2022, there were 623 candidates in the fray for 58 assembly seats.
During UP Assembly Elections 2017, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) bagged 53 out of the 58 seats, while Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) got two seats each and the remaining one went to Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD).
Nearly 50,000 paramilitary personnel from 412 companies of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) were deployed at different locations to maintain peace during the electoral process in Western UP.
The Election Commission (EC) had decided to use Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) along with Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) at every polling station in the first phase. EC made all the arrangements to ensure the availability of an adequate number of EVMs and VVPATs for the smooth conduct of elections.
These assembly constituencies were from eleven districts of Shamli (Prabuddh Nagar), Meerut, Hapur (Panchsheel Nagar), Muzaffarnagar, Baghpat, Ghaziabad, Bulandshahar, Aligarh, Agra, Gautam Buddha Nagar, and Mathura.
The seven phases of the assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh will conclude on March 7, and the result will be declared on March 10. The current UP assembly’s tenure ends on March 14, 2022.

As first phase voting on 58 assembly seats spread in 11 districts of western Uttar Pradesh concluded on Thursday, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expressed confidence of sweeping the region. In 2017, the party won 53 of the 58 constituencies where polling was held in the first phase.
"There is a wave in favour of the BJP under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. People are voting in favour of the BJP government. The feedback and reports collected from ground clearly indicate that the BJP will easily win more than 50 seats of 58 in the first phase," Uttar Pradesh BJP spokesperson Harish Chandra Srivastava told IANS.
Phase 1 Polling Ends Peacefully With Around 58% turnout Amid Minor EVM Glitches
About 58 per cent voter turnout was recorded till 5 pm on Thursday in Uttar Pradesh, where polling was held across 58 assembly constituencies in 11 districts. Polling closed at 6 pm but those already in queue were allowed to vote, Election Commission officials said.
Additional Chief Election Officer (ACEO) B D Ram Tiwari said, "There were reports of a technical error in EVMs at some places." Those EVMs were being replaced as the reports came in, he added.

Hitting out at PM Modi for his remarks on 'dynastic politics' remarks during an interview with news agency ANI, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday said those who do not have families cannot understand the agony the migrant labourers went through during the COVID-19 lockdown.
"We are proud to have families. A family person will not run away with jhola (bag) and leave family behind. During the lockdown, if the chief minister had a family, he would have understood the pain of labourers walking miles to reach their home," Yadav added.

Assembly Election 2022 LIVE | EC Revises Polling Dates For Manipur, Check New Voting Dates
Meanwhile, the Election Commission has revised Assembly poll dates for Manipur. Voting for the first phase of elections to take place on Feb 28 instead of Feb 27.
Second phase of voting will happen on March 5 instead of March 3.
