Lok Sabha Elections: Actor Soori Claims Inability To Vote Due To Alleged Absence From Voter's List

Actor Soori expressed shock that his name was missing from the list, despite having voted in the previous election.

Despite his disappointment, Soori requested everyone to cast their vote.

In Tamil Nadu, the voting for Lok Sabha elections proceeded smoothly except for a few issues on Friday. Actor Soori from the film 'Viduthalai' visited the polling booth to cast his vote on Friday. However, he was unable to do so as his name was reportedly missing from the list.

Soori said that he voted in the previous election and expressed his shock that his name was missing from the electoral list. However, he said that the name of his wife was present on the list. 

Despite his disappointment, Soori requested everyone to cast their vote.

On the other hand, BJP alleged attempts of booth capturing in Tamil Nadu. BJP South Chennai candidate Tamilisai Soundararajan said, “In booth number 13, 50 DMK people entered and captured the booth. They chased away all our agents and wanted to put false voting."

"Because of our complaint, the Election Commission interfered. This is atrocity by state government knowing they will be defeated,” she said. 

Annamalai Demands Repoll

One lakh voters' names were found missing from the voter list of Coimbatore Lok Sabha constituency, claimed Tamil Nadu BJP president and Coimbatore Lok Sabha candidate K Annamalai and demanded a repoll at several polling booths in the regions. Addressing the media persons on Friday, Annamalai said that there were several discrepancies in the voter list and the names of many people who had returned from abroad were deleted. 

"Voters of the same family were assigned in different and faraway booths. Names of 830 persons were missing at one single polling booth," he said, as per IANS. 

He claimed that the absence of one lakh voters' names raised doubts about the Election Commission's conduct of the elections in a fair manner. Additionally, he questioned whether the Commission fulfilled its duty.

He alleged that voters traditionally supporting the BJP were denied their voting rights.

Annamalai further criticized the Election Commission for failing to provide transportation for senior citizens to vote and highlighted a general lack of readiness.

He asked the rationale behind conducting elections if 60 percent of voters' names were deleted from a polling booth.

Moreover, he emphasized that these concerns were formally documented and submitted as complaints to election officials.

Earlier, Vanathi Srinivasan, the National President of BJP Mahila Morcha, informed IANS that the party had lodged complaints with election authorities.

Tamil Nadu voted in the first phase of Lok Sabha polls to elect 39 MPs on Friday.
