Punjab Election | 'Sidhu Can Go To Pakistan If...': Majithia After Filing Nomination From Amritsar East

Majithia also said that if Charanjit Singh Channi won't make him (Sidhu) the CM, he can even go to Pakistan to become head of Pakistan Muslim League.

Chandigarh: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia, who has been fielded from Amritsar East against Punjab Congress Chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, filed his nomination today for the upcoming Assembly Election.

Soon after filing his nomination, Majithia took a pod shot at his political opponent Sidhu. While speaking to reporters, the SAD leader claimed there has been no development in the Amritsar East seat.

Majithia also said that if Charanjit Singh Channi won't make him (Sidhu) the CM, he can even go to Pakistan to become head of Pakistan Muslim League.

"There is no development here (Amritsar East). If CM Channi won't make him (Sidhu) the CM, he can even go to Pak to become head of Pakistan Muslim League. People are exposing his models. If he can't be of his own mother how will he be yours (public)," news agency ANI quoted Majithia as saying.

Once close friends, Majithia and Sidhu are now staunch political enemies who will contest in a bitter 'do-or-die' battle in Punjab polls.

In addition to Amritsar (East) seat, the SAD leader will also contest from Majithia seat that he retained in 2017 with a margin of 22,884 votes.

The brother-in-law of former Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab Sukhbir Singh Badal, Majithia who is a sitting legislator, has been on Opposition's radar over his alleged connections with drug cartels.

Recently, Supreme Court granted Majithia interim protection from arrest in a drug case.

The powerful Akali leader was booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, including Sections 25 (punishment for allowing premises), 27 (A) (whoever is financing any activities pertaining to narcotic drugs) and 29 (party to a criminal conspiracy to commit an offence).

Defending his brother-in-law, Sukhbir Badal had alleged that the Congress government has targeted Majithia and even registered a false case against him as the latter has always raised the issues of the people.

The 117-member Punjab Assembly will go for polls on February 20 and counting of votes will be done on March 10.
