Punjab Election 2022: Sidhu Remains Silent During Priyanka Gandhi's Dhuri Rally, Refuses To Take Stage

Tensions within Congress have deepened in Punjab after party declared Channi as its CM face over Sidhu. Since then, Sidhu has kept his silence and is only campaigning for his constituency Amritsar.

New Delhi: After the Congress declared its chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming Punjab assembly polls which, due on February 20, the infighting in Punjab Congress seems to have deepened.

On Sunday, at a rally in Dhuri, Congress' state chief Navjot Singh Sidhu stayed on the stage but did not utter a word. After Sunil Jakhar’s address at the rally, Sidhu’s name was announced but he chose to remain silent and refused to address the people.

During the rally as well, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra did not mention Sidhu's name during her address. Meanwhile, the chief ministerial candidate of the party Charanjit Singh Channi addressed the rally.

The tensions within the Congress have deepened in Punjab after the party declared Channi as its CM face over Sidhu who was rooting for the seat. Since then, Sidhu has kept his silence and is only campaigning for his assembly constituency Amritsar. He was seen for the first time in public this Sunday.

As per ABP News sources, Sidhu is also angry with the party as he was not provided a helicopter for campaigning.

Before the party had announced the CM candidate, there was huge banter between Sidhu and Sunil Jakhar over who would be chosen as the CM face. During that time Sidhu had stuck to the opinion that Punjab CM would be chosen by the people of the state and not anyone sitting on the top.

However, on the day when the declaration was due, he had tweeted that he would agree with whatever Rahul Gandhi decides.

“Nothing great was ever achieved without an act of decision …. Warm welcome to our leading light Rahul Ji, who comes to give clarity to Punjab …. All will abide by his decision !!!” Sidhu had written.

Punjab will go to the polling on February 20 in a single phase. The result of the election will be declared on March 10, 2022.
