'Pappu's Pappi’: Union minister Mahesh Sharma's asinine remark against Priyanka Gandhi

Addressing a gathering near Dumduma ghat, Priyanka Gandhi said: "When we raise any issue, we are suppressed and lathi-charged. Yesterday a woman came... They came with hope."

Mahesh Sharma is Union Minister for Culture (independent charge) and MoS- Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
“Pappu (Rahul Gandhi) says he wants to become a PM. So now Mayawati, Akhilesh Yadav and now Pappu’s Pappi have also come. Wasn’t Priyanka a daughter of the nation before? Wasn’t she Congress’ daughter?” Sharma purportedly said at a public meeting.
In Pryagraj, Priyanka Gandhi said whenever people protest, they end up facing even sedition charges.
New Delhi: As general elections draw closer, it seems the development narrative takes a backseat while vituperation and name-calling are on what politicians thrive upon. Union culture minister Mahesh Sharma, who has in the past made asinine remarks, has now described Priyanka Gandhi as “Pappu (Rahul Gandhi’s) Pappi”. “Pappu (Rahul Gandhi) says he wants to become a PM. So now Mayawati, Akhilesh Yadav and now Pappu’s Pappi have also come. Wasn’t Priyanka a daughter of the nation before? Wasn’t she Congress’ daughter?” Sharma purportedly says at a  public meet in Uttar Pradesh’s Sikandrabad. The union minister’s belabour also was targeted at West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy. “Even if Mamata Banerjee came here and did the kathak and the Karnataka CM sang a song, who will watch,” he added. Last month, Harish Dwivedi, BJP MP from Basti also resorted to making a below the belt remark. "Everyone knows that when Priyanka Gandhi is in Delhi, she wears jeans and top but dons saree and sindoor when she comes to the constituencies". UP BJP MLA Surendra Singh in January is also an entrant in the list dubbing the Congress president "Raavan" and his sister Priyanka Gandhi "Shurpanakha". And most controversially of all was Bihar BJP MP Vinod Narayan Jha who made a sexist jibe saying:"Priyanka Gandhi is very beautiful, but has no other talent that I can see, neither does she have the political experience" Meanwhile, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Monday kicked off her three-day Lok Sabha campaign by taking a boat ride on the Ganga river from here. Priyanka lashed out at the Modi government for “slapping sedition charges against dissenters.” Addressing a gathering near Dumduma ghat, she said: "When we raise any issue, we are suppressed and lathi-charged. Yesterday a woman came... They came with hope." “But whenever people protest, they end up facing even sedition charges, she said. She also took a swipe at the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ campaign and said, “Chowkidar is meant for the rich people and not the farmers.”
