Mizoram Election Results: The counting of votes for the 40-seat Mizoram assembly has begun and early trends show opposition alliance ZPM leading on seven seats while CM Zoramthanaga's MNF is ahead on four constituencies. The state was the first (Nov 7) among the five that went to polls last month. The counting of votes was earlier scheduled to be held on Dec 3 (Sunday) along with the four other states, but due to continuous demand of the people in the Christian-majority state to move it to any other weekday, the Election Commission changed the date to Dec 4.
The battle in the northeastern hill state is three-way with the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF), Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) and Congress being the main contenders. The Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) is also contesting the polls and is in high spirits after it clinched three of four states where counting was done on Sunday.
The BJP won in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, dethroning Congress from two states and the grand old party wrested BRS from power in Telangana.
