MCD Polls: BJP Created Mountains Of Garbage In Delhi, People Will Choose AAP, Says Kejriwal

The Delhi State Election Commission on Friday announced that MCD polls would be held on December 4.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday accused the BJP, which has governed the Delhi civic bodies since 2007, of creating mountains of garbage in Delhi. He further said that people would vote for change and choose AAP in the upcoming Delhi civic body polls.

Kejriwal wrote in Hindi, "In the last 15 years, BJP has spread garbage across entire Delhi and created mountains of garbage. On December 4, people of Delhi will vote for cleanliness. They will vote to make Delhi beautiful."

"Delhiites will choose the AAP in MCD this time," he further said.

Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai said BJP had "failed" to keep the city clean despite getting multiple chances at the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.

"The Delhiites have given several chances to the BJP in MCD but despite that the BJP has only created mounds of garbage in the city. The AAP is completely geared up for the MCD elections and if given a chance, we will clear all the garbage mountains in the city," PTI quoted Rai as saying.

AAP leader Durgesh Pathak claimed his party "will win more than 230 seats" in the December 4 municipal elections.

"The BJP was given one job in the MCD and they failed miserably. It has been 15 years and the Delhiites know who should be handed the responsibility to keep the city clean. We will win more than 230 out of 250 seats in the MCD polls," Pathak said.

The Delhi State Election Commission on Friday announced that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) polls would be held on December 4 and results would be declared on December 7.

Delhi State Election Commissioner Vijay Dev said, “The issue of notification will be on November 7 and will end on November 14. The last date of withdrawal of candidature is November 19. Voting for the polls will be on December 4 and the results will be announced on December 7.”

With the announcement, the model code of conduct comes into effect from Friday. Addressing a press conference, Vijay Dev said polling stations were redrawn after completion of the delimitation process in Delhi.

"Now we are prepared for 250 wards in Delhi. Municipal corporation of Delhi has jurisdiction in 68 constituencies. 42 seats reserved for SCs. Out of those 42 seats for SCs, 21 seats will be for SC women. 104 seats will be reserved for women," Mr. Dev said.

Before the reunification of the municipality, there used to be 272 wards in 68 assembly segments.

BJP, which is ruling the civic body since 2007, is facing a tough battle against the Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress.
