PM Modi turning into 'Chowkidar' from 'Chaiwala' is India's change in BJP rule: Mayawati

Bahujan Samajwadi Party supremo Mayawati took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior BJP leaders over them adding the prefix Chowkidaar to their respective Twitter handle profiles.

Lucknow: Bahujan Samajwadi Party supremo Mayawati on Tuesday took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior BJP leaders over them adding the prefix Chowkidaar to their respective Twitter handle profiles. In a pointed attack against the Modi govt, the BSP supremo posted a tweet, which seemed to imply that India indeed was witnessing a change in the last five years as PM Modi was no more a Chaiwala and is now a Chowkidaar. The tweet by Mayawati was an indirect reference to how PM Modi had used the Chaiwala as an effective campaign mechanism in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls to connect to the common masses of the country. Earlier, Mayawati, RJD chief Lalu Yadav's wife Rabri and Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav lashed out at the Prime Minister and the BJP for using the 'Mai Bhi Chowkidaar' as a false propaganda to mislead the voters ahead of the general elections Prime Minister Modi had prefixed Chowkidaar ahead of his name in his Twitter handle, other eminent leaders of the Bharatiya Janta party like Amit Shah, Sushma Swaraj and Aun Jaitley followed suit. In wake of the upcoming elections, the BJP has tried to play a masterstroke by using the Maim Bhi Chowkidaar campaign to draw out a semblance among voters from all classes of society. PM Modi had recently said in one of his political rallies that every Indian who is working for the welfare of the nation is a Chowkidaar in his own way.
