Lok Sabha Elections Results: Raebareli, one of the prominent seats among the 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh, witnessed a fierce contest between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress.

A constituency that has been a Congress bastion for decades grabbed all the eyeballs in this year’s Lok Sabha polls as the grand old party fielded senior leader and former party chief Rahul Gandhi.

In the Lok Sabha elections in UP’s Rae Bareli, the BJP fielded Dinesh Pratap Singh against Rahul Gandhi to challenge the stronghold of the Congress in the region.

Besides the BJP and the Congress, the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has also fielded Thakur Prasad Yadav.

Lok Sabha Elections Results: Will Rahul Gandhi Bag Raebareli ?

According to the India Today-Axis My India exit poll, Rahul Gandhi, who replaced his mother and former Congress chief in Raebareli, was seen leading and he is likely to emerge victorious. 

In the Raebareli Lok Sabha seat, voting was held on May 20 in the fifth phase of the polls. Raebareli was the only Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh that the Congress could retain in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. This time around the grand old party has trusted Rahul Gandhi to save the last stronghold of the Congress in UP.

The exit poll of India Today-Axis My India had suggested that the former Congess chief can bag the hot seat, and there are likely to be no hurdles here for the Congress.

Lok Sabha Elections Results: History And Significance Of Raebareli  

The Raebareli Lok Sabha seat is crucial, as this is one of the two seats that Congress did not lose even in the Modi wave during the 2014 Lok Sabha polls when the BJP vested powers from Congress. 

Looking back in the history of Rae BareliFeroze Gandhi fought from Rae Bareli in the country's first Lok Sabha elections. Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat has been the bastion of the Nehru-Gandhi family. 

The Raebareli Lok Sabha constituency has sent key Congress leaders from Feroze Gandhi to Indira Gandhi, Arun Nehru, and Sonia Gandhi to the parliament. The grand old party has fielded Rahul Gandhi from Raebareli as Sonia Gandhi has become a member of the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan.
