Lok Sabha Polls 2024 HIGHLIGHTS : Hello and welcome to this space brought to you by ABP Live. Follow this space for all the latest updates on the upcoming 18th General Elections from all across the country.
The schedule for the Lok Sabha elections in 2024 is expected to be revealed by the Election Commission of India (ECI) after March 13, as reported by India Today, citing ECI sources. ECI teams have been actively inspecting the election preparations in various states, and this assessment is projected to conclude by March 13.
As the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections approach, the political scene in Delhi is intensifying, marked by robust competition among different parties. The two principal coalitions, NDA (National Democratic Alliance) and I.N.D.I.A (The Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance), are preparing for a vigorous contest to secure a majority in the upcoming elections.
Delhi, with its seven Lok Sabha seats, holds a crucial position in the General Elections. Despite its limited number of seats, winning the majority in Delhi is often considered a precursor to forming the central government. Historical trends indicate that the party securing the majority in Delhi typically proceeds to shape the government at the centre, underscoring the territory's significance in the political arena.
The seat-sharing arrangement between AAP and INC has been confirmed, with AAP contesting on four seats and INC on three seats. The Election Commission of India (ECI) will finalize candidate confirmation and seat allocation in the coming weeks. With all seven seats currently held by BJP MLAs, the Delhi General Elections 2024 are poised to be a closely contested event, with each party striving for victory in the national capital.
The Congress party engaged in a series of pivotal meetings on Monday as it gears up for the Lok Sabha elections. The Manifesto Committee, headed by former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, deliberated on the draft manifesto. Concurrently, screening committees held meetings to shortlist candidates for the Lok Sabha elections.
On March 7, the Central Election Committee convened to finalise the names for the initial list of Lok Sabha candidates, according to sources.
The manifesto committee is set to meet again on Tuesday for further discussions. Sources told The Hindu that the panel approved around 10 pages of the 50-page document on Monday. Once the document is concluded, it will be forwarded to the Congress Working Committee for the final stamp of approval. Earlier reporting by The Hindu on Saturday indicated that ensuring a legal guarantee for the minimum support price, conducting a caste-based census, and prioritizing the filling of existing government vacancies will prominently feature in the Congress manifesto for the 2024 Lok Sabha election.
