Lok Sabha Polls Highlights: Hello and welcome to Lok Sabha Elections 2024 Live Blog, please follow this space for all the latest news and information about the Lok Sabha Elections 2024. With every passing day, the electoral battle is intensifying in the country to stake majority and form the government at the Centre.
On Sunday, the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress announced candidates for the Lok Sabha Elections from West Bengal on all the 42 seats. TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee has been fielded from Diamond Harbour while star cricketer Yusuf Pathan has been given a ticket from Bahrampur.
The party has dropped Nusrat Jahan who was earlier fielded from trouble-torn Sandeshkhali and has instead decided to give the ticket to Noorul Islam.
The announcement was made by the party during its 'Jana Garjan Sabha' at Kolkata's famed Brigade Parade Ground where it kickstarted the campaign for the Lok Sabha polls.
During the campaign, Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee charged up their supporters who reached the venue from far and wide corners of the state.
Abhishek claimed that "Modi ki guarantee" has "zero warranty and labelled BJP leaders as "outsiders and anti-Bengal", who only visit the state during elections.
Mamata Banerjee, during her speech, praised the recently resigned Election Commissioner Arun Goel for "not succumbing" to what she described as BJP's attempts at coercion. "I will never allow opening of detention camps and implementation of the NRC in West Bengal. The TMC will lead the way for the entire country in defeating the BJP," said the West Bengal Chief Minister.
The same day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Uttar Pradesh's Azamgarh inaugurated or laid the foundations of projects worth Rs 42,000 crore across the country, of which projects worth Rs 34,700 crore are in UP, with a major chunk of them involving the construction of airports and airport buildings.
