Lok Sabha Polls: PM Modi, Amit Shah, Yogi Adityanath Among BJP's List Of Star Campaigners For U'khand

BJP's list of star campaigners for Uttarakhand consisted of top guns including PM Modi, Yogi Adityanath, Amit Shah, and Rajnath Singh.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday (March 27) released the list of 40 star campaigners for Uttarakhand ahead of the much-awaited Lok Sabha elections 2024. The list included the names of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Party's National President JP Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

Some of the other big names that appeared in the list include Nitin Gadkari, Smriti Irani, Anurag Thakur, Nayab Singh Saini, Hema Malini, Manoj Tiwari, and Trivendra Singh Rawat, among others.

Uttarakhand contributes five Lok Sabha constituencies among the 543 Lok Sabha seats. These include Almora, Haridwar, Tehri Garhwal, Garhwal, and Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar.

In the previous general elections held in 2019, BJP leader Ajay Tamta won from Almora, receiving a 64.03 percent vote share. Tirath Singh Yadav and Ramesh Pokhriyal 'nishank' won from Gharwal and Hardwar with a 68.25 and 52.37 percent vote share. Meanwhile, Ajay Bhatt and Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah won from the Nainital-Udhamsingh Nagar and Tehri Garhwal constituency  with 61.35 and 64.53 percent vote share, respectively.

The saffron party has fielded Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah, Ajay Tamta, Trivendra Singh Rawat, Anil Baluni, and Ajay Bhatt for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as well.

BJP and Congress have witnessed close competition in the state. However, BJP won all the Lok Sabha seats in both 2014 and 2019 general elections.

The last day to file nominations for Uttarakhand's five Lok Sabha seats is March 27.

Former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Trivendra Singh Rawat filed his nominations from Haridwar seat on March 22.

Accordingto the schedule announced by the Election Commission of India (ECI), the state will go for polling in the first phase on April 19.
