Manoj Tiwari Wins North-East Delhi Seat With 1.39 Lakh Votes, Defeats Congress's Kanhaiya Kumar
The North-East Delhi Lok Sabha has witnessed a major contest between BJP's Manoj Tiwari and Congress' Kanhaiya Kumar, the former president of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU).

This Lok Sabha seat saw a fierce battle between BJP MP Manoj Tiwari and Congress candidate Kanhaiya Kumar. Both the candidates originally hail from Bihar and contested from Delhi's Lok Sabha seat which is home to mostly Purvanchali population from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
Tiwari defeated Congress veteran Sheila Dixit by a margin of 3.6 lakh votes in the 2014 Lok Sabha election. Congress candidate, Kanhaiya Kumar had banked on ten years of anti-incumbency of Manoj Tiwari.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Manoj Tiwari won the seat by defeating an AAP candidate. This time the INDIA alliance pitted Congress candidate Kanhaiya Kumar against Tiwari.
Manoj Tiwari was the only MP out of the seven BJP MPs in the National Capital who was given a ticket by the saffron party in the run-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha poll.
In 2019, Kanhaiya Kumar contested the Begusarai seat of Bihar on a Communist Party of India ticket and was defeated by Union Minister Giriraj Singh of the BJP. Later, the former student leader switched over to the Congress.
